[solved] after UP8 (LMDE) very weak sound from TV

Post by roger64 »

Hi

There is probably a sound setting disabled somewhere but I could not find it. I have sound but very weak (nearly inaudible) when I look internet TV. RadioTray radio streaming sound is strong and OK. System sound are OK. I have a NVIDIA card and I see on Synaptic that I have a whopping 17 packets installed in xserver-xorg-video including some ATI ones (?). I wished I had the good one...

Before UP8 I had never had any sound problems.

Re: after UP8 (LMDE) very weak sound from TV

Still stuck with this and I have read this did happen to more than one (bit I did not read yet a solution):
- I can listen music on my Sayonara music player (mp3, wav and the like)
- streaming audio is strong but choppy, Internet TV is mute (but I have nice image)

I tried to do something with alsamixer, Pavucontrol.... to no avail :(

I am still stuck with this. Four months now. :(

I have sound on my computer: I can look and hear correctly You tube videos on W7
I have sound on Linux: I have the Cinnamon login sound, and when I check the headphones with Pavumeter (left and right) sound is OK
I have no sound on videos like You Tube. Never.

I am facing the same problem with SolydX on another partition. I was hoping the problem could be gone after the latest UP from 15th of April 2014: to no avail.

Is there somewhere a checklist I could use?
I always had sound before and do not remember doing something special.

Please do not take me as a tech authority on getting sound to work with LMDE, but I have had my own problems over the recent months (and posted about it) but now things seem to be working OK.
  • Do you have HDMI?
What is your sound output currently being sent to?
When you play a YouTube video, and check the 'Applications' tab of 'Sound Settings', do you see an 'ALSA plug-in' entry, and it is turned on?

Solved thanks to your alsa tip. Thank you very much.

It's a little minute of shame but maybe it will be useful to somebody else.

Glad it worked out for you! :)

P.S. You should probably mark the title of your post as 'Solved'.

I did it.

Somewhat, I think that some setting has been changed during the last update, unknowingly to the user. As far as sound is concerned, if there are some settings to be modified (why?), the sound should better be set to "loud" than "mute". :D

Yea, whenever I try a new distro (or a new version of an existing one), one of the first things I check is sound/video, since those are the things that have typically tripped me up over the years. Despite occasional glitches, overall everything gets better and more reliable over time, which makes me happy :)
