Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920

Post by philippeorlando »

So it seems that if I want to use this cam, I'm going to use the Windows XP side, uh?
Oh well!

What? Is it on the compatibility list? My c310 works. I use guvcview for simple recording etc.

Many Logitech webcams work under Linux. Unfortunately, this C920 is not one of them => http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/ (indeed not listed as working and at least not tested).

That's not true. I just bought the C920, plugged it into my Laptop and was able to instant record videos.
It works out of the box! In Ubuntu 12.04 from the year 2012. So Linux Mint is even better in hardware recognition and should work pretty well!

No driver, no configuration, not to do anything. Plug it and use it!

Here my first YouTube Video with that webcam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpCYH6r4ECI

But be aware, it's German ;)

So maybe you should contribute to the community on http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/ to report this device as tested and working... I do not own this model, only a C525 which is listed :)

This webcam is recognized by Linux but is barely usable. I mean you can't zoom in or out..

So, in my opinion, it DOESN'T works!

I've got a dual boot Linux and Windows 10 ONLY for using Skype with this cam ! :?

I just installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 18 on a new system with this webcam connected.

Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 was not recognized at all until I installed guvcview. Following, it works perfectly including zoom in/out. There was no other configuration other than guvcview installation, no drivers, no setup, nothing. It simply worked well as far as I have tested....recording photos, & videos, sound, zoom, rotate.

I will update the compatibility db. :D

Using v4l-utils worked for me:

Install:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install v4l-utils
Find your device:

Code: Select all

v4l2-ctl --list-devices
Adjust parameters:

Code: Select all

v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --list-ctrls
v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --set-ctrl=exposure_auto=3
v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --set-ctrl=focus_auto=0
Locked

Return to “Sound”
