Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa RC2 (BETA 048) is out!
I've just read of the release of the "Google Gadgets for Linux".
I know it might be too late for additions, but could it be possible (if it's not there yet) to add it to Elyssa?
If not, will at least be added to the repositories?
Thanx

What these appear to have in common is Flash. Are all four browsers using the same Flash plugin? What Flash plugins are they using? Personally, I'd be quicker to blame Flash than to blame Mint, and I don't see how Clem can possibly be responsible for Flash being buggy.Helmeci wrote:Okay i have tried 4 different web browsers on Elyssa 048 and found a bug. For some reason they like to close on their own. Tried Firefox 2 & 3, Seamonkey, and Opera. Every browser likes to close randomly. Youtube or other video sources seems to be the biggest cause. Hope this will be fixed in the final version of elyssa.

This is probably due to Flash 10.Helmeci wrote:Okay i have tried 4 different web browsers on Elyssa 048 and found a bug. For some reason they like to close on their own. Flash 10 makes FF3 crash immediatly. Opera seems to handle it better.
Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa RC2 (BETA 048) is out!
Can't seem to get my sound working. I'm trying to use the digital out from my on-board sound chip. In previous versions of Mint (Cassandra, Celena, Daryna) I would just switch to the Realtek ALC650F mixer and enable the digital device (check the box and turn the volume up) then switch back to the Alsa mixer.
This seems to have no effect in Elyssa. I have been messing with the various mixers (Alsa, Pulse, etc.) but I just can't seem to make it work. I did a fresh install on an unused partition and did all the updates shown in Mintupdate.
Hardware:
Shuttle SB75G2
Intel 875/ICH5 motherboard
Realtek ALC650 on-board sound
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks, Tim

Writing this from a new HP dv6000, using the LiveCD of Beta048. Everything's working great - video, sound, Flash, even wireless worked right out of the box. I am mightily impressed. I'll be partitioning today, and will install Mint 5 stable when it comes out. Excellent work, guys. Many thanks.
EDIT: OK. I've now installed Beta048 and things are still going well. Only problem is Compiz doesn't seem to be working at all. I'm using nVidia Corporation GeForce 8400M GS, and apparently this is a bug in Hardy, so I'm still hunting for a solution. I'll let you know if I find one.
EDIT PART DEUX: Solution found: Open Envy NG, select NVidia, and then select Automatic Hardware Detection. Compiz now working fine.

Hi!
If you want to add a new starter to the gnome-panel, i get graphic-errors. these errors aren't caused by my drivers but by the default theme.
see screenshot: http://de.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=348t0uw&s=3
the second thing:
If an emblem for a directory is too big it is cut of by the border of nautilus.
srceenshot: http://de.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=ifaext&s=3
Maybe you can fix this.
Best regards,
ManuP

Hey Clem (or anyone that knows)
Has the Linux Mint 5 stable already been released?
Is this it here (LinuxMint-5.iso)?

Doesn't look like it's available in the Asia mirror yet, they probably want it to be available in all the mirrors before they announce it

If you have don that can you tell us if all work god, i just wonder if they have fixed the bug in gnome?

Damn, yeah I updated with level 1, 2, and 3 updates and now I can't change the wallpaper.

skrotten wrote:Is it safe just use level 1 and 2?
I think i just update level 1 and 2 and drop 3 so i don`t get any trouble.
Thank`s for that you answered so fast and i am sorry you get trouble.
But you help`t a lot of others.
IDK I'm about to reinstall, only using level 1 and 2 updates and I'll see how it goes. But yeah it should be safe disabling level 3 updates, and probably a good idea since they haven't been tested yet
Does anyone know if this is the really the final release?
Flash seems to be running a lot more stable. Haven't had it crash on me yet
Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa RC2 (BETA 048) is out!
personally, I install all levels of updates 1 thru 5 including kernel updates.
this can cause problems though, so I think the mint crew only recommends levels 1 thru 3 .
btw, I have Elyssa final installed (with the newest kernel) and she's running like a champ
no problems changing wallpaper here... but I enable ubuntu backports and proposed.
I'm pretty sure this is the final, Clem just hasn't made the announcement yet...
I love it!!!

hm just reinstalled and disabled level 3 updates, and realized all the available updates were level 3. I guess that's why they weren't already installed. Hm maybe one of the 4 or 5 level updates fixed the bug for you?
I'll just stick with level 1 and 2 to be on the safe side.
But yeah, LM 5 is awesome. Flash 10 doesn't crash no more!
