LMDE 201403 and UP6

Post by dct1970 »

I just booted LMDE 201403 32-bit Cinnamon to replace XP and I see it is on UP6. That is not what I expected. I assumed that UP8 would have already been applied on the 201403 ISO. Did I somehow download the wrong thing? I guess I can install 201403 and then apply UP7 followed by UP8. But if there is an existing ISO that is already up to UP8, I'd prefer to use it.

I am really curious about this one too. Either you don't have UP6 but UP8 or you did not use the right iso

I confirmed again that I downloaded 201403 and the MD5 matches the download page. I downloaded from a USA mirror but I don't remember which one. Maybe I should download from another? Or maybe just install UP7 and UP8 and not worry about this oddity? Though I am interested to understand what is going on.

Here is the inxi result Attached is a screenshot of the update package screen.

Well, clearly I don't know how to attach a screenshot. Let's try it again.

Wrong ISO. This is 201303.

I totally agree with Monsta.
The fastest for you is to download the new iso and reinstall everything.

If you want to learn, read the UP notes and try to upgrade. It will maybe/probably break but depending on your knowledge it can be fun. Be prepare: burn an iso just in case (or a USB stick).

OK, I'm downloading from another USA mirror that I don't think I used originally. But the really odd thing is the file I downloaded was named 201403 and the MD5 [ba865cdb8defc2114713037f43429bf6] matched the value posted on the LMDE 32-bit Cinnamon download page. I don't really understand MD5 very well but it seems odd that the wrong ISO could have the right MD5. So maybe some mirrors don't actually have 201403 even though on the surface it appears they do? I'll post back the results of this new ISO. Thanks for the help.

In live mode, before installing the system, you can test it:

Code: Select all

inxi -F
Should say that you have the 3.11 Kernel. If not, the iso is not up-to-date :)

The new download shows UP8 as installed. Command inxi -F shows kernel 3.11. So I've got the right version now. Thanks for all the help.
