Remastersys is a program that makes a bootable livecd/dvd from your installed system. If you are familiar with the mklivecd script in PCLinuxOS and Mandriva, then this is the Ubuntu equivalent.

If you go to the main wiki page, there is a wiki for Remastersys that should explain everything in more detail.

It may also give birth to a whole new round of Ubuntu spinoffs... by regular users since you don't have to understand how it works to use it.

That is the beauty of Linux.
