What is your CPU model / freq / RAM size?
your graphic is quite old.. Redeon X series..
You probably want to start from Linuxmint 13 xfce or mate.

ok ,
it is quite a fast CPU and more than enough RAM to run many Linux OSes.

I recommend start with LM13-xfce or mate.

Have you checked md5sum? of your downloaded iso?

Is your live media a DVD or USB flash, or something else?

It is a DVD. If have checked it ( checksum ) . No errors. I have tried several linuxes : lubuntu ( 14,12,11 ) , Linux mint xfce ( 16,13 ) , Bodhi ( latest ) , none will complete booting and start install. :(

OK,

here is a quick way for you, to test out booting Linuxmint from Hard Disk.
So you could avoid the use of DVD..
Hopefully you can be successful to boot it

1. Run from ubuntu 10.04

2. install unetbootin to ubuntu
sudo apt-get install unetbootin

3. run unetbootin

4. point to the Linuxmint iso as its input

5. on the last line of unetbootin windows, you see Type..
click to select Hard Disk,
yes select Hard Disk.
then OK

you should see unetbootin starts to copy file into hard disk and make some amendment to grub of ubuntu 10.04

6. reboot, scroll down and select a line that read 'unetbootin', it should boot into Linuxmint...

good luck

So, these are the errors ( linux mint 13 xcfe x32 ) : BusyBox v.1.18.5 ( Ubuntu 1:1.18/5-lubuntu4) built-in shell ( ash )
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
(initramfs) help

I entered "help" but i don`t understand the commands.
I entered "exit" but i got alot of : No such file or directory OR nonexistent directory.
also : Target filesystem doesn`t have requested /sbin/init.
No init foun. Try passing init= bootrag.
I did what u said above, rebooted, and selected unibootin and that`s what i have got.

Have you tried the DVD on a different computer to test it?
Mint 18.2 Cinnamon, Quad core AMD A8-3870 with Radeon HD Graphics 6550D, 8GB DDR3, Ralink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI
Linux Linx 2018

It seems your toshiba is a tough one to handle typical linux OS.
Read a lot of forumers saying toshiba gave them tough issues on linux.

Not sure which other method is good for that toshiba..

Another possible method is:

If you have another computer, you can install Linuxmint from that computer to a USB drive, say into a small ext4 partition of around 10G.

Then, come to this toshiba laptop, run from ubuntu 10.04, create some unallocated space equal or larger than the Linuxmint OS partition on USB drive.

Use ubuntu's gparted to copy the whole Linuxmint OS partition to the unallocated space.

Do a sudo update-grub
Then reboot, select Linuxmint OS and see if all is well.

good luck to crack the tough one.
