The closer we get to "download day" the better FF3 becomes.

My Elyssa pulls updates from Hardy-proposed and currently identifies itself in a couple of hidden areas as "8.04.1". My FF3 says it is 3.0, not 3.0rcX. No problems with it at all.

Looking forward to Elyssa-KDE

This weekend would be nice, but after my Elyssa experience I really don't need one more install project on my plate this weekend. See also:
http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopi ... 516#p84516

Thanks to Elyssa being such a rock solid performer and a hit at home, my weekend honey-do list includes repartitioning the kids' computer and swapping Ubuntu for Mint. I'll then need to download, compile, and install vmware so that I can virtualize their XP desktop and run it under Mint. I want Wine on Elyssa for my laptop, and then to top it all off I have some hardware projects to complete as well: build a hobby/craft center for my wife, relocate a laden bookshelf, and create from scratch a "computer lab" for the kids and I. There is a renfair to attend, giant turkey legs to eat, bikes that need riding, and a pool pass to use.

All this because Elyssa has freed up my time from Windows uselessness.

AK Dave,

Just reading that post made me tired. I may have to go take a nap to recover. :-)

Question

So is Elyssa KDE treated the same as Elyssa GNOME? I am refering to how it was stated that new features from Mint 6, Mint 7, ect, will be backported to 5 because it is a LTS release.

Hi All.
This is fantastic news! :D

I really have great expectations for the New Beta with my new Quadcore and HDMI nVidia Card Rig.....especially how it already performs so great with Elyssa 5.0 and Daryna 4.0. :D 8) :D

I got most of my hardware projects at home finished last weekend. The polyurethane is curing on a cabinet for my wife as we speak, and should be installed by tomorrow. The PC for my kids now tripleboots XP, Ubuntu/OpenGEU (proposed), and Elyssa (stable), with the emphasis on the stable Elyssa and a nice suite of free software for everyone's enjoyment. Everybody is thrilled, except my oldest who wants to run this game from wolfquest.org which is XP/Mac only. So it looks like Wine and then the convoluted process of installing DirectX 9.0 through Wine. There must be an easier way. But this means that most of my June projects are at or near completion.

Bring on Elyssa-KDE! I'm ready!

Ok a couple of bugs were found.
newer quicktime movies would not play in ff.
ksplash needs more wide screen resolution images.
since clem is away for a week I will fix these problems and send for retesting.
hopefully this will meen the beta will also be the final. (but I know someone will be able to break it)

I don't suppose there's any chance the Volume OSD has been fixed from Daryna?

Ok the beta is not available yet, it is being tested by the dev team.
clem has to give it the OK too.
the beta will be a DVD.
the final will be a DVD but i will also do a miniKDE that is a CD iso.
miniKDE will not have OO or gimp (and others) and i will add Koffice.

Are we talking a ~1gb DVD or a ~4gb Sabayon-size DVD?

I don't mind burning a DVD. If you tell me the DVD is also a nearly-full repo mirror, at least I'm forewarned. There are some advantages to this approach, as I'm sure you're aware. There is the disadvantage of needing to download the whole chunk at once, which could be a stumbling block for some. I just want to be able to plan ahead. I want Elyssa-KDE but I also want OO, and you probably don't include the stock KDE games set in the CD version. So a ~1gb DVD should cover all of that. More than that is a mirror of the repos.

a dist-upgrade would be amazing since my cd-rom drive doesnt work and i had to install mint 4 from a usb-drive, but if theres no dist-upgrade available then i guess i could install from a usb drive again since i have it all figured out. keep up the good work boo.
