No sound after install Cinnamon 17 on Intel sound card
Hello, I installed LinuxMint 17 with Cinnamon? and don't have sound from dynamics.
I have Windows on the same computer, and there everything is OK, so the hardware is good.
I see the sound symbol on the right, low corner and after click, it opened sound applet and settings.
There I can see "Play sound through Analog Output Built-in Audio" with output volume about 100%.
"Test Sound" does nothing hear.
The command "lshw" outputs the next:
*-multimedia
description: Audio device
product: NM10/ICH7 Family High Definition Audio Controller
vendor: Intel Corporation
physical id: 1b
bus info: pci@0000:00:1b.0
version: 01
width: 64 bits
clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list
configuration: driver=snd_hda_intel latency=0
resources: irq:40 memory:ffa38000-ffa3bfff
How can I get audio output on LinuxMint?
Thank you in advance.

Re: No sound after install Cinnamon 17 on Intel sound card
How to record sound with sound-recorders (mhwave, audacity, QARecord)? Asus board here.
As great as Mint 13 LTS was in this respect, so chaotic Mint 17 Qiana LTS looks here now.
(I already saw this in Xubuntu 14.04 and now in Mint too...)
I'm very curious if anybody else has noticed this? Streaming and recording have become very important these days.

Re: No sound after install Cinnamon 17 on Intel sound card
Same problem. Correction How?
Re: No sound after install Cinnamon 17 on Intel sound card
With Pulseaudio:
When a device is recording (for instance Audacity) one can see that in the recording tab in pulseaudio-volume-control. There is also a monitor-switch and that has to be in the right position. It was not right after install here. Who knows? (And then the right settings of course for input and output on Audacity, mhWavedit etc..
A pitty that a simple thing like QaRecord does not work anymore. Maybe Alsa is not working? I couldn't find out.)
So understanding sound and the trajectum?? No. I never did all those linux-years.

Re: No sound after install Cinnamon 17 on Intel sound card
Same problem. When I did a manual install of Mint 17, I found cmus had defaulted to alsa. I get sound but it's muffled and bad.
There isn't even a volume applet on the bar at the bottom. When I tried "Pulseaudio &" from the command line I got
" Failed to open module mbeq_1197.so: mbeq_1197.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
E: [pulseaudio] module-ladspa-sink.c: Failed to load LADSPA plugin: file not found

It all worked fine on Mint 16, and a fresh install on my other device works okay, but that was a complete install.

Re: No sound after install Cinnamon 17 on Intel sound card
First of all: do ALSA or do pulse.
Pulse: install pavucontrol. And then try what I wrote: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 67#p868967
It cán work. Here it does after a lot of searching.
Mixers enough, for instance gnome-alsamixer or xfce4-mixer or fader-applet add to panel etc.

Re: No sound after install Cinnamon 17 on Intel sound card
I forget about Qarecord for the moment.

Pulse sucks for demanding applications and also for Skype.
Re: No sound after install Cinnamon 17 on Intel sound card
Same issue here with my old Stone laptop.
This too uses an Intel card.
This lapdog used Win XP till yesterday and the audio was fine.
Just put Mint 17 xfce 32bit on and no audio. Same message as posted earlier
when using lshw.
Just tried live Mint 16 and that's just the same.
The sound bars go up and down with the tune in the mixer when using Banshee and also an
external Creative usb sound card/ headphones work.
What's the fix?
In plain English please!
Cheers,
Rick.

Re: No sound after install Cinnamon 17 on Intel sound card
Sound can be a drag, we know. I throw one:
When you use pulse:
Pavucontrol output devices-tab speaker on? Analog output / All outputdevices?
In the tab configuration: built in audio: analog stereo duplex?
Alsa: try Gnome-alsamixer and do experiments with master, pcm etc.

Maybe such a silly thing? Often the problem is tiny-small.
http://www.binarytides.com/better-linux ... -cinnamon/
Codecs?
Other player for experimenting, maybe VLC or Exaile.
Etc.??

Re: No sound after install Cinnamon 17 on Intel sound card
I had the same problem with my m-audio soundcard, the mixer next to the clock showed everything at 100% but I still heard nothing. Then I remembered alsamixer, I opened a terminal, launched alsamixer and it turned out the volume was set to zero there. I turned up the output for my soundcard and everything is working great now. Perhaps that could help some of the other posters?
Re: No sound after install Cinnamon 17 on Intel sound card
Thanks! This worked for me too (although I had to install alsamixer first): some of my channels were muted.planetm wrote:I opened a terminal, launched alsamixer and it turned out the volume was set to zero there. I turned up the output for my soundcard and everything is working great now.
