After a while, LM just crashes. The screen is rendered uninterpretable, just like in some video game glitch.
I've switched to WMaker, but I still experience these problems.
I use the Ubuntu-based version with an nVidia GPU.
What is the cause of the problem? The system which Linux Mint is based on? (I experienced similar problems with Ubuntu)
Or maybe Nouveau, the free driver?

Re: GPU lockups all the way
Did you solve this issue? I recently installed Linux Mint on a spare drive and now I'm having the same problem.
The desktop drops to the console and outputs errors:
This continues for a few minutes with the final error messaging being:
After this error message, the system locks up and displays garbage on the screen like you described above. My display adapter is a GeForce GTX 580

Re: GPU lockups all the way
Have you looked in the additional/proprietary drivers and installed the nVidia drivers?
Re: GPU lockups all the way
I solved this problem way long ago with the installation of proprietary drivers.
