Firefox
Gimp (image editor)
gThumb (view & organize images — probably different one for different desktop versions)
HexChat
LibreOffice (a suite: WordProcessor, Spreadsheet, Presentation...)
Orage Calendar (again, probably depends on desktop version)
various settings managers (printers, display,...)

Text Editor (depends on desktop version)
Thunderbird (email)
Tomboy Notes (a note-taker/organizer)
Update Manager (monitor for & allow installing updates)
VLC media player (may depend on desktop version)

Again, as an example, here are some trivially added applications using the Software Manager (ones I've installed — it's a SMALL list :-)

Chromium (web browser_
Cryptkeeper (encrypted folders)
FileZilla (GUI FTP program)
gColor2 (color selector — useful for website design)
GParted (partition, format, nuke disks)
LuckyBackup (backup software)
Opera (yet another web browser)
VirtualBox (run other operating systems in "virtual machines")
Skype (I think everyone knows what this is)
SysInfo (display information about your system — choice of this program depends on which desktop environment)
Users and Groups (the package is "gnome-system-tools" — what you use for administering Users and Groups depends on which desktop environment)
Xfe (the File Manager I prefer — there are other similar "2-Panel File Mangers")

I do have Dropbox installed, but I prefer to do that manually — the instructions are on the dropbox.com website.
Hi JRG,

Maybe I needed to be more specific in my original post but that is much closer to what I was looking for.

Specifically, I was wanting to know what is included with the Cinnamon version so that I can compare (research) against what was installed with Petra KDE.

Do you happen to have any recommendations for IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) for developing Web Applications with JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3?

Thanks, Michael.

Split off joaosg's post and turned it into a dedicated thread.

A support request deserves its own thread. Highjacking an announcement thread for support requests is not appreciated.

Hello!

Why in Linux Mint still keeps coming by default the Banshee, Totem and VLC programs as media players, why they don't keep just one, like VLC? Why three programs?

Hugs!

This is a thread about the RC Release, which incidentally is now Stable. And your point is??

Freedom, Choice, Because..... who cares

In any case: VLC is totally a different beast to Banshee
I only use VLC for DVD's
Smplayer for video
Banshee for music

According to community.linuxmint.com/iso, the isos are approved for stable release. When will they be put on linuxmint.com?

If you browse through the mirror list you will see that the ISO is available for download - my download just finished. You should check the md5sum to make sure that it is the full ISO before attempting to install from it.

Mirror list is here: http://www.linuxmint.com/mirrors.php

The Ireland mirror seems like one of the best and most up to date.

The MD5 sum is on the downloads page beside the link to the download, sometimes marked as SHA1.

When you have finished the download, right click on the iso file and select check md5. Compare it with the number and letters in SHA1. If they match, you have a clean download. If they don't try again,

TIP. Try torrent version instead, they are usually more accurate.

For Mint 17 the md5 sums are as follows:

93e86d70da10637c4e08beb1c03e040b linuxmint-17-cinnamon-dvd-32bit.iso

1c3fef2117fad9c9bc905abdeb474ac1 linuxmint-17-cinnamon-dvd-64bit.iso

74e36fa46864ae623883f0580e3a289b linuxmint-17-mate-dvd-32bit.iso

When checking md5 numbers I find it easiest to open a 'tomboy note' and copy & paste the displayed md5 sum result from the pop up box, then copy & paste the result of the characters of the official md5 sum.

Just be aware that that a torrent download gives a different MD5 sum.

How so? No matter what method you use for download, checksums should always match.

Transmission uses its own checksum algorithm. You need to use terminal to generate the proper checksum.

I'm currently using Maya (Ubuntu-based 64-bit KDE version) and was thinking of upgrading due to weird Xorg breakage that keeps happening to my machine.

I don't see anything with KDE in it this go-round. Is there going to be a KDE Qiana? Does the lack of KDE in this release mean Mint is going to stop supporting KDE?
