belovedmonster,
The file seems to be corrupted. Is it on my end or yours?

Re: Beginers Guide to Installing and Using Mint
It works fine for me. But unless you have posted this several times in different messages I think you are not the only one who has commented with having problems opening the file. I've noticed a few comments about it.
Re: Beginers Guide to Installing and Using Mint
No, this is my only post on the subject.
I got an error window saying the file couldn't be opened with kpdf.

I got it. Must be something to do with Firefox 3.0. The link is pulling in the text above it too.
I went to the site and downloaded it from there without a problem.

tikigod13,
I suspect your problem is related to not having enough ram to install. I would suggest you use Gparted to make a swap partition of about 512 MB and reboot before you try to install. This should help greatly if that is your only problem.

Re: Different desktop version CDs are the same?
The checksum should not be the same.wjbite wrote:I decided to try Mint on two machines.
I wanted Gnone for my desktop and XFCE for a really old laptop that has low capabilities.
I downloaded the xfce disk image and checked the checksum - GOOD.
I started to download the Gnome disk image and found that the checksum for both disks is that same.
Can that be so?
Also, whilst registering for this forum, I found that the forum software handles passwords in "clear text".
I would appreciate a warning about passwords not being secure. Is there a special place to request administrative things like that?
Thanks for the work all have put into this distro.

LinuxMint-5-XFCE.iso md5sum:

You must have not used the correct file for the second checksum.
Re: Beginers Guide to Installing and Using Mint
greetings,
I have just loaded up Mint and I already like it. I came over from MW (i no longer say the name) because of various problems including virus attacks.
Do i need protection whilst surfing etc. using Mint.

I would like to translate and distribute such User Guide to portuguese. May I? After translated, should I submit for revision of someone else?
