This happens when you try to do what?
There's some mentioning of qt so I think it has to do with the GUI

I was having a similar problem.

Adept was working. I attempted to install VMWware server and something during the install didn't complete. Adept and Add-Remove did not work. When running either, I was getting a message saying, "There was an error committing changes. Possibly there was a problem downloading some packages or the commit would break packages."

Then, when I closed adept, it would crash. Back Trace output was:

Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1".

I noticed that I needed to do an update. I ran the update. One of the packages needing updating was VMWare Server. It updated. During update, in Konsole, I accepted the VMWare user's agreement, registered the software, etc.

All updates completed successfully. I then went back into Adept and successfully installed XSane. VMWare Server is also now installed. I also installed Frozen Bubble and it's running now. I installed KOffice, too!

So, my guess is, you have a stuck package and it needs to get unstuck. When Synaptic in Linspire or Freespire got "wedged", I ran the following in konsole:
apt-get -f install
I'm new to Linux Mint and Adept, so I hope others can confirm this command or flesh it out a bit.
HTH.

Toonfully,

Mark
