Dual boot Mint and Windows 7

So I had to put Windows 7 on my machine Anyway, I need to dual boot Win 7 and Mint. Since I wanted to reimage Mint with the latest release this was a perfect opportunity to start from scratch. I first installed Win 7 to a 250 GB partition. After that was done I installed Mint. After the install was done the install Grub 2 it errored out on installing the bootloader. So I followed this guide (http://forums.justlinux.com/showthread. ... R-to-Grub2) from my USB stick. This kind of works. I messed up the HDD number, so to boot into Win 7 I have to 'e' then edit it to boot to the correct HDD. The other problem I'm having is grub 2 can't seem to find Mint even though I know it's there. Should I just try and reinstall Mint leaving Win 7 alone since the bootloader is installed correctly now?

Hey, I've done dual booting with Win7 and LM16 in past. The best way to do it is to free up some space from you C Drive using disk managment that comes with Windows 7 then boot from LM USB drive then install ONLY in that partition. The best way to recognize it is to give it specific amount of free space so you know which partition you're dealing with.

I did:
Win7 -> Partition off free space using Disk Management in Win7 -> reboot and boot from USB stick -> go with "something else" option -> Find your partition and click on "+" then give it some of "/" and "swapspace".

LM16 worked great and all but I messed something up while trying to make the Windows 7 to be the default boot for the booting order and I ended up deleting LM16 in a wrong way and all my important data in the drive had to be wiped.

I STRONGLY recommend picking a host OS then using virtual machine OR TWO separate computers. If you insist on dual boot I recommend you to start all over if there aren't too important data in either OS

May be you have several hard disk?

Can you boot and run from installed Mint, then, open a terminal, type these commands, and post there results

1. sudo os-prober

2. sudo fdisk -l

3. sudo parted -l

Maybe you should find out where Grub was installed (see my signature, help, chapter 6.1).
