Upgrade scenario from 13 to 17

Post by jazz.h »

Hi guys!

This is my plan for upgrading from Mint 13 MATE 64 bit to Mint 17 MATE 64 bit, you tell me if I'm wrong...

Acer netbook, ssd Patriot, 3 primary partitions, sda1 Win7 ntfs, sda2 Mint13 ext4 size 9gb, sda3 data ntfs. Mint 13 working fine, as well as windows.

I inserted larger ssd2 Samsung, did the cloning device-to-device with CloneZilla, booted Mint 13 from Samsung ssd just fine. Then I created in Samsung ssd - sda4 extended partition, sda5 (logical) ext4 for Mint 17 size 8gb. I installed Mint 17 into sda5 and I'm planning to use it as a daily OS in the future weeks.

If I'm satisfied with Mint 17, my plan is to (CloneZilla) copy partition Samsung sda5 to Patriot sda2, if it doesn't boot at 1st then to boot from usb stick and update grub.

I think it should work since source part is smaller than target part, but I'm not sure if logical > primary partition conversion would make any difference...?

Ehhh...!
I remember the time from 3 years ago, when Q like this would quickly be answered.
Obviously, popularity does have its other side...
