Mint 14 remove & then install Windows 8
Hi I'm a real linux newbie. Last year I installed Linux Mint 14 (nadia) 64- bit on the computer. However, next year I am going away to college and I am going to be giving the computer to my father to use and he needs Windows 8 to be installed. I have really searched the web to find a way to uninstall linux but all the tutorials I find are for how to uninstall it when the computer is dual booted. While I have some computer experience, I am very new with linux and some of the more technical steps and terms are confusing to me. Could someone help me figure out the best way to uninstall linux and install windows 8? Also, the computer has an ssd drive so I do not believe that dban is an option. Thank you in advance and I apologize if this is too detailed of a question for the newbie forums! Just let me know and I will be glad to delete or move it.

Re: Mint 14 remove & then install Windows 8
Moved here as this isn't about Linux Mint.
I'd imagine all you have to do is insert Windows 8 installation media, boot from it, follow installation steps and it will replace any other operating systems installed. For help with Windows 8 installation you can use a forum like http://www.eightforums.com/.
DBAN would work fine to remove Linux Mint before installing Windows 8 (the drive would appear empty), but indeed it might not effectively wipe the contents of all the SSD's internal memory cells and data of yours might survive DBAN for recovery by forensic analysts. If that is a issue, look into whether your SSD supports the secure erase command (and it isn't a dummy command, as on some SSDs), which would securely erase all the SSD memory cells.
