Still, sadly, technical software are still way behind in open source. Both AutoCAD and MATLAB breaks all competition, for 3D CAD Pro Engineer is the king. Hopefully we will see some improvements in the open source in the near future...

There are so many alternatives, I think it's hard to pick the 'best' alternative for a commercial program but it's a good list anyways.

Looked at Turbocash site- equivalent on MS Money, the list says.
But most of thelinks are returning error 404.
Also the system requirements list Windows only. Wil it work on Mint?
Any nother OSS alternatives like Ace Money etc. I need for just personal accounting.

Try GFP, GnuCash, jGnash, or KMyMoney. Personally, as a former quicken user I just started using the KMyMoney (Which is only relevant to you if you are running a Mint KDE CE version... but I hear the others are fine as well).

There are also online financial applications (OS indifferent) making inroads quickly. Personally, I just don't like the idea of my financial data being held out there in the ether... but that's just me. Here is a link of several online financial options:

Finally, here is the argument for why some claim that online financial solutions are actually better than their fat-client counterparts (which admittedly I found somewhat interesting):

I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happened to, but I discovered one of the online financial solutions accidentally by inadvertently just typing "Mint" in Firefox's address bar (http://www.mint.com - of course I meant to be typing http://www.linuxmint.com)

As a final note on this topic, my friend recently switched to Mint but simply could not (read: too lazy to) learn a new financial application, so I set up his Peachtree 2003 system on Wine and it runs perfectly fine.

good topic, but some programs like Abletone, 3D Max, Photoshop, etc. have no similar analogs in linux =(

Check the names if you get a 404 message, links often die off, because a page just doen't update any changes..
