New user from xp

New user here from xp notebook. My daughter said this Linux Mint should be the easiest to use and downloaded it for me. I haven't really had a chance to do much with it yet. So far so good. Reading through the Users Guide and it said I should register so here I am! I probably wont post much but will read plenty. Thank you in advance for your help and support for when I do start to have questions.

When it works cleanly, then the desktop is similar enough to any other GUI (Apple OS-X, Windows OS) ; that the mouse, right-clicks and copy/paste all will seem familiar

• --that's a quick look at windows going to Linux tasks..

And there are some additional choices..
--for file manages for example, if you don't like the default selected by the distribution
--same with Browsers or office software (distros (distributions, these days usually install LibreOffice..))

For browsing, email, general document/writing, video watching and so on
--Linux works just fine; only games would be an issue (and for that the native platform for a specific game will always be best), anything else is a work-around or kludge

• Using Wine to run windows apps..

I usually use a VM, such as VirtualBox to run any windows application I need, and that works well, but I do need the licensed copy of the windows OS to install into that VM (it installs quicker and runs faster than a native install to a hard drive)
--mainly it is smaller and runs from a file within the host system (Linux), and uses the host's devices and access methods..
