The problem her is that I'm discussing with someone that misunderstands every answer I give

I must say I'm at a complete loss here
mplayer does not use xine (and does not have a file menu)

There has been differences over time in players....
In Elyssa Totem uses xine but it has no File menuGxine Player and going to File/Configure
