Are you sure it installed properly? The program needs libsdl-net1.2 in order to install.

Good question. It shouldn't have installed all of the way without that library. Have you tried to execute it from a terminal window?

open a terminal and type:

vdrift

Post what it says if it gives an error.

You don't need to be in any folder to execute the application via terminal. I would attempt a re-install. It should have run out of terminal if it was installed correctly, or at the very least given an error during execution.

Well, could be a number of things. What are your machine specs? I know that it's a pretty low-tech game, but your graphics card might not be able to handle it. You can try to reduce the video setting under options before attempting to play the game. Otherwise if your video card is good, you may not have the correct driver installed. Also make sure that desktop effects (compiz) are disabled. Those wreak havoc with most games.

This happened to me with Crimson Fields: after download/installation via Synaptic it failed to appear in the Applications list but once located, it ran perfectly from the games folder. :?

Nope it played fine on Elyssa.
I just had to make sure these where installed:
libsdl-image1.2
libsdl-net1.2
libsdl-gfx1.2-4
I installed the -dev of them as well just to make sure.
Everything ran fine accept my driving.

I second that. I couldn't keep the car off the walls. Hard to control.

Yea for some reason I hit the brakes and the thing wouldn't turn.
Then I hit the wall a bounce in the opposite direction I'm turn to.
