Automounting media

Post by DapperMe17 »

XFCE Daryna 4.0

Is there a way to automount drives on boot (cd-rw's, windows partitions in a dual boot)?

At current, a blank cd in a RW drive gives me the "unable to mount blank cd" warning.

Nice project, keep up the great work!

For some reason they made it so you had to set it up with the installer to automount.
It's under manually partition and check use partition without checking format.
I think that's the stupidest thing they did.

You can open thunar --> right click --> open as root.
Then open Partition Editor and let it mount the partitions.
Now open /etc/mtab and copy the entries you need to /etc/fstab

Thanks for the reply.

Partition editor already shows root, home & swap as mounted. Should I change the last three entries in the following fstab? If so, can you tell what to edit in the file?

The ...etc/fstab is as follows

/etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
# /dev/sda3

I have installed K3B, & can now write to the disk just fine.

However, I still can't "mount" the disk to see what is on the disk...???

I previously had Kubuntu 6.10, where mounting worked just fine.

Any ideas?

Ubuntu uses /media to mount everything.
The places plugin should mount anything that is shown.
The installer doesn't set up the fstab to mount the other partitions anymore.(same as Ubuntu, Xubuntu and Kubuntu)
Not sure why they decided to do this. :(
Seems like a step backwards to me.
If you chose to manually partition during install.
Then select use for the other hard drives and their file format.
After that make sure to add a mount point using /media/WHATEVER_YOU_WANT.
Then it will be added to fstab and automount when you boot into your session.

Thanks for the info, however, can you tell me if & what there are, so far as conflicts in my mstab & fstab files....?

I have the xfce auto-mount plugin, however, an icon does not appear on the desktop & Thunar does not open automatically

I would like it to do so!

My fstab is obviously not correct.

I have the panel mount icon present, however, it shows sd0, sd1 & fd0 as "not mounted".

This is for Daryna.

Thanks

I made some slight changes to my fstab...I've seemed to somewhat solve the CD-R issue. In Thunar, my CD-RW drive shows & does now show the name of the disk & when clicked on, shows the files on the disk. K3B had to be used to burn the info.

However, the panel mount icon still shows all drives "not mounted".

The only problem I still seem to have is this....in Thunar, on the CD-R drive icon on the left, when I right click on the icon...when I select "eject disk", I get a warning box stating that I "do not have permissions" to eject the disk.

How can I correct that?
