Nested menus?

Postby boneyjellyfish on Thu Jul 24, 2008 6:14 pm

I like to be able to neatly organize my menus, even if it means creating folders within each menu to further subdivide my tasks. I like how the Windows start menu does this, as well as the normal Gnome menu. This is especially useful for wine applications since I'd rather see a bunch of neat little folders than a big jumble of fifty or so applications, but I also like to use them to clean up the Preferences section of the menu.

Anyway, is this functionality possible in mintMenu?

Right click the menu > Edit menu > New menu
Experiment a little to get the grips of it
Double clicking on the left side and you put the new menu as a submenu in an existing menu

If I were to do that and add, say, a folder named "Test" to the Office menu, and then place an item in that Test folder, I would not see the Test folder when I open up the Office menu. Instead I would just see whatever items I put it in. Do you understand what I'm saying?

I don't like the tone in your answer....
Should have tested - damn it - have to find out why

Sorry, I was only trying to elaborate on my question since I didn't think I had communicated it well.

I confirm that what boneyjellyfish reports is how Mintmenu works for me also: nested menus don't nest.

Any news on this one? Checked and still not working the nested ones

For me this is important because I usually have more than one app for the same thing.

- Multiple browsers for testing
- Programming tools divided by use or language
- Games divided by type [FPS, kids, board, etc]
- Sound and Video editing tools are a lot in my menu

Best,
Lopo

Well, here goes my first reply.....

I have installed the Linux Mint 7 (and I think this Felicia, right...?) recently and while I think this could be a keeper (I have tried many o' distro....), like the people before here I come from a Windows background. I am also pretty "anal" about my desktop and menu clutter.... I try to avoid that as much as I can and keep it all nice and clean.
Well, while trying to do the "windows" thing to the MintMenu I found that I can add the submenu's and move items around from menu's to sub menu's ,etc. in the editor. But when I then go back to my menu none of my changes show up. And all of a sudden I have items that were in one menu before now appear in multiple menu's. Or my submenu's don't have the correct icon and some of them even appear twice.....
I have even tried to log off and back, reboot, etc. nothing seems to make a difference. The only thing I haven't tried that I saw mentioned here is to do the reload plugins thing. I wil try that tonight....
So it seems that the changes have not made it into the lates version of Mint..... Or am I doing something majorly wrong?

Anyway, keep it up 'cause I do really think this is one of the better distro's out there......
