erm.. I just noticed after a reboot, it starts working.
Then i got suspicious and started amarok. didn't play music.
So the thing is, you have to choose: Sound on amarok, or sound on skype.
Jesus, i had this issues like 5 or 6 years ago in kubuntu. Can't believe we still have this issues here...
Anyway, i still wanna hear you guys before going back to cinnamon

I too thought the days of sound problems was behind us..... until I tried KDE!

Though I like KDE so much I decided to soldier on!

I'm not sure if it would work for you, but as a workaround you could try installing the package 'pavucontrol' (PulseAudio Volume Control). I was having trouble switching between external and internal soundcards (which for me have been plug & play since ubuntu 9.something !!). It gives you much more control than Phonon or Kmix, you should be able to select which application is using the soundcard. The only problem is I can't get it work as an Applet and need to select it from the main menu or Alt+F2.

...... yeah, we should be over this sort of thing by now! :(

P.S. With the thread marked 'solved' many may ignore it.

already solved it man. changed the backend from gstreamer to VLC.
reboot...and all problems gone.
im waiting for the drawback though.. as they would make vlc default otherwise. at least...i guess.
so far so good.
Amarok playing music + skype working + video on youtube playing also
basically i have no problems at all, concerning sound.

You change the backend by going

-to the K menu, then system settings

-multimedia

-audio and video settings

-backend tab

-choose VLC and set it atop the Gstreamer with the arrow "prefer"

hope this helps
