Please don't use hdparm unless you are very confident about what you are doing - you could destroy your disk
From Daryna (or possbily earlier) Mint uses a "new" hard disk driver (sorry - I can't remember the name )
This makes all disks be sdx - hdx is outdated and will only appear in grub

something like sdx hdx Ubuntu

I don't have the time and I know the basics in this case, one of them that you can't have more than 15 partitions....
