Already made a few posts but here goes:
Not really new to Linux but still consider myself a Noob as I don't really learn, just bodge things until I get the result I need or throw my hands up and walk away.
Started with Süse 7.3 out of curiosity - everyone said Linux was crap and far too difficult for standard-model humans.
Bought for £23 at a computer fair (brand new) seriously impressed with the price and packaging compared to Windows - nice box, 5 CDs and a 400 page manual!
Installation was simple, easier than Windows at the time.
Contrary to popular opinion it found and installed the modem and printer completely effortlessly and then networked with the other four machines (all Windows) in the house - something that Windows couldn't cope with at the time.
Since then I have been using Ubuntu since it first came out and enjoyed it's ease of use and stability.
Explored Mint a bit and put it on a laptop for the ex-wife, who is totally non-tech but managed extremely well with it (she now has a new laptop with Windows 8 on it, god help her)
Currently using Ubuntu 14.04 on the desktop and Mint 17 on this (Asus laptop)
No problems encountered other than with Firefox synch, different version on Mint to Ubuntu - although both 30.1 and it seems to have mangled the authorisation code. Will fix it eventually. New Ubuntu soon anyway so that should cure it
