No sounds on headphones solved
I just installed Mint 5 and I realized that although sound comes from the laptop's internal speakers, my headphones are not detected when plugged into the jack; sound continues to play from the internal speakers and no sound is heard through the headphones. My computer is a Sony Vaio vgn-zx140e and my sound card is is part of the Intel 82801H (rev 03) chipset. I've looked around on several different forums and tried some of the fixes to no avail. Is this a common problem with this chipset? I am a noob, so any help would be much appreciated.

Instead of auto you can try Sony or vaio
I'm not saying this is the solution, but it could be

After changing "auto" to "vaio", the fix you recommended worked. Thanks for the help!
