Faster boot.

Post by tha_lode »

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but here goes.

The computer takes 2 minutes from i turn the power on, until the Elyssa button appears on the taksbar. It takes only 15 seconds from power on until I briefly see something about Grub and then the OS chooser appears.

The Bootchart says 45 seconds, but the computer obvioulsly takes longer than 15 seconds + 45 seconds.

Does anybody have any suggestions for what I can do to shave some time of the bootup?

There are some guides that are talk about tweaking ubuntu. The most useful I found was a little software called sysv-rc-conf which lets you enable and disable services/deamons. You can also try concurrency (can't remember how its done right now), which seemed to increase the performance and boot time by a great deal..

This may also help.

Make sure you back up any important data, just in case you run into trouble.

Happy tweaking!
