I think it is ironic that Gnome was started to get around the use of then non-free QT by KDE. Now mono is making more and more inroads into Gnome.
I think mono is a lot more dangerous to free software than QT ever was. Of course QT is now dual licensed so it is a non-issue at this point. But frankly, mono is a poison pill that could destroy Gnome and damage a lot of other free software as well.

... so I gather this doesn't cause any problems removing in Mint? What does uninstalling it do in the grand scheme of things? Surely it's not going to influence the developers not to use it in future....

I followed the recommendations and have not found any negative effects as yet.

What are the chances of making Zim the default in future Mint releases and avoiding Mono?
