Are you sure you really need 8.8, wouldn't 8.6 suffice? If it's ok just run the application called EnvyNg included in your Mint installation, the rest should be obvious. If you really need 8.8 then you can just try double clicking on the .run file you've downloaded, for me the ATI installer worked ok. If it does not go to Ubuntu wiki and search for graphic driver installation, there's a nice guide to it there, and in this respect MInt and Ubuntu are 100% the same.
