That was based on Ubuntu 14.04. Peak Ubuntu in my experience, I think they started going downhill after that. Not just the lack of transparency nowadays, IMO they have a habit of biting off more than they can chew.
Peak Linux Mint too IMHO.
Linux Mint 17.3 has not been bettered. Too many changes for change sake. Linux in general has too many distributions and has become too fragmented.
The future is only going one way .... downhill.

I have a guilty fondness for Mandrake Linux, but Mint all the way.

I'm with you.

When I first decided to dive into Linux 20+ years ago, I downloaded 4, maybe 5 distros and burned the live CDs.

Mandriva KDE was my first Linux success story. Everything came up working, even the wifi card I had in my PC at the time. I was just astounded, and so proud to have successfully installed a Linux system.

On top of all else, it was just simply beautiful to look at !

One of the coolest things about Mandrake was you had every single desktop and could play around with each one. Now this was Mandrake 7.0, but it was neat. And it had a couple of really nice games as well.
