My headphones don't have audio but my built in audio does.

Post by Rami216 »

I am completely new to Linux I literally just downloaded it. I use Linux mint cinnamon and I just finished installing everything I wanted to get up and running then I plugged in my headphones and there was no sound. I've gone to the audio settings I've tried Alsamixer and every other forum with audio issues I could find. I'm not tech savvy like not very much at all and I can't figure this out. I'd just really appreciate it if someone could try and help me out and explain it like I'm their 70 year old senile grandpa.

Reason: Moved from Desktop:Cinnamon to Sound because the issue is no sound through headphones.

1. Inxi output is needed viewtopic.php?t=318644

2. You can test another sound card.
- Large computers usually have external (not literally) graphics cards.
And these graphics cards sometimes have sound cards and some monitors even have speakers so you can listen through them.
Sound should work via HDMI or Display cable. It probably will not work with a VGA cable.
- A sound card is sometimes sold together with headphones.
It looks like a USB pendrive with a jack input.
Sometimes it has volume buttons and a part of wire.

For your second note I forgot to specify that I am using a laptop and I do not think I have an external graphics card.

I found your device " Intel CM238 HD Audio " in https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebia ... NUC8i7HVK2
The problem is that driver is non-free and I can not find in Ubuntu and in Mint.
https://askubuntu.com/questions/27513/w ... ey-corresp
But I found intel-media-va-driver-non-free
Try install from Synaptic package manager.
then reboot , login to system and try test sound.

I believe I did everything correctly but after testing the sound I still do not have audio. By the way I am using headphones that use a jack. Felt like I should specify just in case as I didn't prior.
