[solved] Time to change browser?

Post by AndyMH »

Been a chromium user since I started with mint, think I need to change:

Googling it would appear that google have deliberately made changes to prevent extensions like ublock working. All to do with their ad revenue, so no surprises there. Now I wonder how ungoogled chromium behaves...

You can always go back to Firefox :D

I heard Google is ditching the old extension API in favour of a more restrictive one. So any Chromium based browser may eventually need to carry along a huge patch to maintain the old API.

I'm surprised (just a little) that this would affect Chromium. What version of Chromium did you try this on? I'm on version 122.0.6261.128 (Official Build) built on Debian 12.5, running on Debian 12.0 (64-bit) and I have uBo installed just fine.

Have you looked top right in the window:

The error leads you to my original screenshot. If you haven't got it yet, I suspect with the next update...

Have you tried LibreWolf (source code on Codeberg)? It's a FLOSS Firefox fork with Firefox updates and enhancements for privacy and security and it has uBlock Origin on it by default.

I'm using Chromium Version 123.0.6312.58 (after new update today) and uBlock Origin 1.56.0 and works fine for me.

Odd, I'm on 121.0.6167.160 and what I'm seeing is consistent with what I'd read:
https://www.ghostery.com/blog/ublock-or ... 20instead.
I'll update and see what happens.

EDIT - looks like update to the latest has fixed it, don't like the font change.

uBlock Origin works perfectly in my Chromium-based standard browser Vivaldi as well as in Chromium browser. The problem of the topic starter may be caused by some settings.
