Dell Latitudes

Post by birdman518 »

I probably should already know the answer to this.. but spending money makes me stupid.
I have been running Mint on a Dell Inspiron 3000 (at least 7 years old) for a couple of years. I am looking
at upgrading to a refurbished Dell Latitude 5440.
I assume that since Dell ships many flavors of these with Ubuntu, that Linux Mint would safely
install and run okay as well.
The only specs I think I care about are 16G of RAM and a 512G HDD.
Should I go for it?
Thanks,
MJM

I installed Mint Cinnamon on a refurb Dell Latitude 7490 last year. No issues at all.

I'm on an old Latitude E6410 (2017) with Mint 20.3 XFCE & all works fine for me.

I have two Dell Latitude 7490s with 16GB of RAM. One has a 256GB SSD and the other has a 1TB SSD. They were both originally Win10 machines, but run the latest Linux Mint 21 flawlessly. I picked up both machines cheaply on eBay. Both were seller refurbished. The 1TB unit came with Linux Mint 20 installed, and included a USB flash drive for system recovery, which I used to give the 256GB unit the ultimate upgrade from Win10 to Linux Mint 20. They are my daily drivers and I couldn't be happier with them.

Looking at the specs for the Latitude 5440 that has a 13th gen intel cpu. You will need the edge version of the iso for that hardware. I would be very surprised if it has an HDD, it is likely to be an nvme drive.

Installed Mint Cinnamon 21.1 on a Latitude 7390 without problems. Running it for about a year now.
