This post was originally made in 2006. Not surprising that the link is dead. Besides you just use Compiz now for these effects.

Yep, this thread was over 2 and 1/2 years old. In that time Beryl has merged with compiz to form Compiz Fusion, which is renaming to Compiz, and there's even talk about another Beryl project. The how-to now is just go to Appearance --> Special Effects --> Advanced.
