Docks

Docks

Postby red-e-made on Fri Oct 12, 2007 9:19 pm

I've been trying, without success, to install gnome-dock aka cairo dock. The software seems like it hasn't been updated in a while. The Ubuntu thread on the subject didn't seem to help much either.

Can anyone tell me how to install this thing, and then configure its settings?

Also, what other docks do you guys recommend?

Have you tried this link?
https://developer.berlios.de/projects/cairo-dock/
Here is the latest link to cairo http://cairographics.org/releases/cairo-1.4.10.tar.gz
Here is some info on how to compile it.

Any way you can upload that to mintUpload? I just finished downloading Episode 3 of Rozen Maiden Traumend from Rapidshare and have to wait over an hour to download this.

Already had the dependencies - I installed the .deb from the Rapidshare link, and now I've no idea where it is.

Also, for some reason I'm not permitted to open the .deb from box.net

OK, found it, and I'm baffled here.

Typing ./configure does nothing.

EDIT: Nope, I'm stumped. I have no idea how to install this thing - any help would be great.

Never mind! I got it :D

I went to the developer's link you gave me, downloaded the 1.3.5 package, updated it, and like magic, it's working. Good thing I know French though!

Thanks again for all your help :) Here's a screenshot:

I'll play around with other themes later.

To bad I don't know French, wish English was the default setting, but I found the setting.

This is exactly what I needed! I've saved it onto the flash drive that I use for back-up, system settings and what not. This really comes in handy. Thanks very much!

I made my own theme for the dock.
It's for XFCE so you will have to edit some commands.

Wait, I'm confused now. Is this link for an XFCE package?

The commands used are for XFCE, you would have to change them to Gnome.
Examples trash can, Console(terminal) and filemanager.(Thunar instead of Nautilus)
