Try to put the pictures you want in the folder /user/share/backgrounds, or better create /user/share/backgrounds/lightdm. And test enable/disable "Draw user backgrounds" in Login Window application.

Hello, I had something like you: crash during start or after few minutes. I changed the driver for nvidia graphics (from "recomended" to something older). Also you may try the 6.2 linux kernel. I had these issues with 5.15 kernel (even when the system was upgrading the nvidia driver).

Usually it is easier to install first the windows 10 system and after that the linux OS.

Before this "error" did you updated the kernel? If you did, have you restarted the computer? On older versions of mint (18, 19) your error appeared after a kernel update without restart. Just an advice

Mate panel in not ready for vertical settings (very old demand). You should try mate-dock-applet. This works like in window 10, or in cinnamon panel: only the icon is activated without text.
