Systemd automount ignores timeouts on disconnected devices: processes hang forever
I'm trying to manage an external usb disk (which I use as destination for automatic backups in a multi-user installation) by systemd automount feature. This is how I coded its line in /etc/fstab: /dev/disk/by-uuid/68d4697d-5748-40a6-a68b-b66f9ecc0e4c /media/BACKUP auto noauto,x-systemd.automount,x-s...

Re: Xfce: switching user causes frozen black screen
One more update: I made another attempt with odd results. Suspecting the issue may concern my Nvidia graphic card and/or its proprietary driver, I disabled it switching back to Nouveau open source driver. First of all, after rebooting I found myself in front of a black screen (it's the second time i...

Re: Xfce: switching user causes frozen black screen
Thanks Pjotr, but it's exactly what I already do. This hides but does not fix the issue, being forced to log out is quite a different situation. Unfortunately it does not equal at all the benefit to switch session without worrying about closing/saving other users' applications and open files: that's...

Re: Xfce: switching user causes frozen black screen
Hi, just an update.
I tried replacing MDM with LightDM (removing MDM to avoid any conflict). LightDM works but gives the same issue when trying user switching.
So I'm thinking MDM might not be accused.
I'm confused
This is a very annoying issue, having a multi-user installation.

Re: Xfce: switching user causes frozen black screen
Hi Chrisonmint Unfortunately no progress yet. As also reported here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=173115 the cause could lie in the combination of MDM and some (how many?) nvidia cards. Would you confirm ? Actually these were my recent test: - Lenovo G500s + Nvidia Geforce +...

Re: Xfce: switching user causes frozen black screen
Hi Chrisonmint I forgot to mention my Mint version: I recently installed 18.1 (XFCE). Unfortunately none of the workaround you suggested work for me, except for hard reboot. I also suppose it's a MDM issue, regardless of desktop environment. I activated NDM debug logging in its preferences, but I do...

Xfce: switching user causes frozen black screen
Clicking Switch User lead to a black screen with a cursor in the top left corner. It stays that way forever. Happens every time. Also, clicking New Login in the administration menu has the same effect. This happens also with fresh new users. Loggin off users works instead. I read a post debating the...

@Cosmo
Sorry, what ? Hijack who ?
I just thought it could be useful considering an issue seems to be shared between different DE.
I was moved by a sprit of collaboration and synergy and didn't mean to make confusion or hurt anyone's sensibility...

Re: switch user goes to frozen black screen
Hi
I have exactly the same issue, with XFCE edition.
Cosmo, I did the test you suggested: I created 2 new user accounts, then logged in as the first (all other users logged off) and the first attempt to switch user gave the same issue.
Quite annoying

Exaile: no suitable plugin found from decodebin20
I always loved Exaile, in my opinion the best music player ever (I really can't get completely satsfied by any others). Starting from Mint 18 and the current Exaile version available, I can't play mp3 files anymore, getting the following error: INFO : Loading Exaile 3.4.5 on Python 2.7.12... INFO : ...

Ciao e benvenuto

Re: Installing Xfce4 over Mate for LM18
Hi Flemur
After installing meta pacakges mint-meta-xfce and xfce4, I already had all the packages you listed, except for mint-info-xfce and mint-user-guide-xfce, which I manually installed.
Would you kindly post me the steps you followed to remove MATE ?
Thank you very much

Re: Installing Xfce4 over Mate for LM18
I installed both meta packages.
It didn't worked: choosing xfce session gives only black screen and mouse pointer, as happened to several people, I read.
Falling back to MATE session works.
I suspect some conflict...some MATE component wich should be removed or at least inhibited.

Re: Installing Xfce4 over Mate for LM18
Ok, so as I want a Linux Mint XFCE Desktop, right as it would be if had installed the XFCE edition, I'm choosing the mint-meta-xfce package, instead of xfce4. Just one more doubt, if I'll succeed: in order to avoid any conflict with MATE components, is it safe removing MATE ? What's the best way ? O...

Re: Installing Xfce4 over Mate for LM18
Hi to both I have the same purpose: I have a LM 18 MATE installation, I repented and would like to completely switch to XFCE, possibly without a whole fresh installation, and without troubles of course. I am going to test the process on a virtual machine before trying with my real installation. Rich...

[SOLVED] Dosbox segmentation fault
Finally ! I found a dosbox 0.74 unsupported patched version here: https://code.launchpad.net/~i30817/+archive/dosbox-patched As described, just add the untrusted PPA and update your repositories. It creates and uses a different configuration file named dosbox-SVN.conf, in which you may retrieve your...

Re: Dosbox segmentation fault
Shared Experience, many thanks for your verification,I feel less alone now  It is clearly something introduced by a new kernel version. It would seem anyway related to some hardware, as a virtualized installation of 18.0 (by Virtual Box) running on the same real machine is not affected (but it...
