Re: Installing Mint 14 on VMstation

Your version of VMware Workstation may simply be too old to run Mint 14. The 64-bit version of Mint 14 boots without that error on my copy of VMware Workstation 8 (also on a 64-bit Windows 7 host).

I use VMware Workstation all the time and I have never had a problem with Linux guests. What version of VMware Workstation are you running?

Re: Have a problem with Conky

Do you have a customized .conkyrc file? If so, then there may be something in there that got broken by a recent update. FWIW, the following .conkyrc works for me in Mint 13 Xfce with the latest patches: alignment top_right background no border_width 1 cpu_avg_samples 2 default_color white default_ou...

Re: I need to partition the system without the install usb

is this the only way ..... I don't want to reinstall..... It may not be the only way but it strikes me as being the most sensible way. Your recent posting history reveals that you have spent a fair bit of time trying to troubleshoot these broken installations with quite limited success. Sometimes i...

Re: Installing Mint 14 on VMstation

i tried installing on my VMstation (something like a vitual box emulator) but as soon as I click Start Limnux Mint, it goes to this black screen with this error message at the bottom PANIC :- early exception and then lots of numbers.. Perhaps you might have better luck with VirtualBox itself. (I've...

Re: Firefox wheel scrolling

I dunno, I just tried changing...

mousewheel.default.delta_multiplier_y

...from its default value of 100 to a new value of 200 and now each vertical wheel-scroll in Firefox moves twice as far as it did before. (Mint 13 Xfce, in case that makes any difference....)

Re: new install wireless network does not work

When go to the network setup to fix it it actually seems that it may be cycling between the wireless and the wired network though the wired network is unplugged I cannot find where to disable it. Try this: In Preferences > Network Connections select your Wired adapter and then click the "Edit..." b...

Re: After fresh install of Mint 14 Ethernet doesnt work anym

I have to use 802.1x Security for the connection but on Mint 13 I just got to the 802.1x Security Tab in the network Edit window and set it up properly and then it worked.. I see. That's something I've never had to set up before. I hope somebody else can help you. Also what is this "lo" interface? ...

IPv4 Settings: Address: 192.29.15.3 Prefix: 24 (255.255.255.0) Gateway: 192.29.15.1 That's odd. The numbers look convincing except that according to... http://whois.arin.net/rest/net/NET-192-29-0-0-1/pft ...that IP address has belonged to Sun Microsystems for the last 25 years. (I see results similar to yours if I set the method to "Disabled".)

Re: static IP under MATE

I still have the problem that the system tray icon disappeared. I just switched my Mint 14 MATE machine to a static IP and my tray icon went away, too. I think it just might be the way MATE works: there are no network connections to manage (nm-tool says "unmanaged") so the tray icon isn't there. Th...

Re: need to get software from one computer to the next .

[topics merged, same OP, same subject] Ah, okay good. More information now. I need to know how to expand and then install a .tar.gz file (wicd-1.7.2.4.tar.gz) I suspect that the .tar.gz file contains the source code for the app. If so, then you'd have to compile the app yourself, along with all the...

Re: What Speed Is My Network Card?

In a Terminal window, try the command

Code: Select all

sudo lshw -class network
The adapter speed should be displayed as either "size" or "capacity" (or maybe both).
