Re: HDMI problem getting Mint onto TV.

Many thanks for your reply, unfortunately KDE must be different to Cinnamon. There doesn`t appear to be the same configuration between the two.

Thanks again for trying to help and all the best.

HDMI problem getting Mint onto TV.

Hi All, I`m not sure which heading this should go under, so I`m putting it under Hardware, hoping that`s the right one, and you can understand what I`m trying to say. Anyway, here goes. I`ve just downloaded Cinnamon 18 and have come across a problem. When I plug the hdmi cable in and change to hdmi...

Just install Rhythmbox either through package manager or software manager. Sorry, can`t help you with Mirage.

Re: Soundjuicer and MP3

Why don`t you use Asunder, which is in package manager and does the job you require.

Re: Mint Maya 13 Mate Remastersys

Thanks for the reply oobetimer, did`nt work for me unfortunately. However I have found how to do it, sometimes the easiest solutions are the ones that work. At the login screen I enter custom for username & leave password blank. So simple it took me a while to try it. Anyway problem fixed & ...

(SOLVED) Maya 13 Mate Remastersys

Hi all, I recently downloaded Mint 13 Maya Mate 32-bit and intended to install Remastersys as I`ve done with Isadora. However after installing Remastersys, I then decided to backup the OS, to see that it was working properly. When this had finished, I burned the .iso to disc and loaded the disc to r...

Re: Ripping DVD's

I use K9Copy, it`s pretty good.
Admittedly it creates a 4.3GB iso, but you could then burn it to a rewritable dvd and use acidrip to turn it into avi`s.
Don`t know if that`s any use to you.

Re: How to backup distro to share with friends?

I don`t know if this is any use to you, I found it absolutely brilliant to follow and use. It worked like a dream for me and would recommend it to anyone who is a bit nervous of doing it. I`m not very proficient yet with Linux, but find Mint to be the best by far. Anyway, the link to what I mentione...

Re: File system on flash drive

Silly question.
If I format it as ext2, how do I disable journaling?
Also, is "encrypted compatible with Linux" which is one of the options an advantage?
Hope that makes sense.
Thank you in advance.

You may want to go with ext2 or ext4 with disabled journaling so your flashdrive's life is extended.

Thanks for that, that`s interesting to know. Cheers.

Re: File system on flash drive

stevefed5291 Thank you very much for your quick reply. I thought that was the case, just wanted to confirm. The other advantage is that if I ever lose the flash drive, it can`t be seen by Windows users. Having tried quite a few different distros, Mint seems to come out on top in user friendliness. T...

File system on flash drive

I hope that this is the correct heading. As a relative newbie and someone who is enthralled by Linux and Mint in particular. The question I`m asking is can a USB flash drive be formatted in ext 3? Is it a better file system than say NTFS or FAT. I know that if it`s in ext3 it won`t be recognised by ...

chkrootkit

Hi everybody, I hope this is the right forum. I have just run chkrootkit and the following appeared in the list. I have no idea what it means, and it`s the first time that it`s ever come up. Is it safe or not? Obviously it has something to do with java and firefox, but it`s the bit with volatile tha...

Many thanks to you both, rhvkl and merlwiz79, for your help, it worked a treat. It is a real pleasure when there are so many knowledgeable and helpful people out there in the Minty world. Something so simple to realise makes it very worthwhile. Hopefully my learning curve is getting a lot better an...

Accessing other partitions

Hi all, Please bear with me, I`m new to this posting lark. I am normally a Mint main user, so I thought I`d give XFCE a go. It is an excellent release in some ways better than the main release, but I seem to have come across a slight problem. In Mint main release you can access other partitions on t...

Re: Considerations before you install

As a newbie to Linux in general and Mint in particular, this post intrigued me as I have lost some data due to a not very good user (me). I must admit that I haven't read all the posts contributed, as some of them are a bit above me (sorry). After following the post and partitioning as follows: swap...
