Re: No DVD Automount after Update 7 (SOLVED)

Haha, I'll rephrase:
That's what I'll be doing until things get back on track or I end up pulling some hair out.
I do want to try out the permanent fix you posted, though, as the general process of downgrading would probably come in handy elsewhere. Thanks!

Re: No DVD Automount after Update 7 (SOLVED)

I'm getting the same problem here, not just with DVDs but with any optical media. Man, it's a pain in the neck--but thanks for mentioning the Brasero work-around. That's what I'll be doing until things get back on track. Update 7 seems to have screwed a lot of things up. I wish I would have waited b...

Re: Copy to USB devices slow and problematic

That sounds exactly like it! Thanks for sharing.

Hmm... Now I'm torn. I didn't realize the long delay resulted in a significant decrease in write operations.

Re: can't change default application for mp3s

I had the exact same problem but with MPEG video files. They refused to open with anything but the bundled player (gnome-mplayer, I think). I uninstalled that program, and the MPEG file association stuck itself to VLC--so I uninstalled that and was finally allowed to use SMPlayer. Had either gnome-m...

Hehe, are you turning your computer on and off throughout the lecture?

System beeps can oftentimes be disabled altogether with a BIOS option. It's certainly worth checking.

Re: sound disappeared

Run alsamixer and see if it isn't a volume issue... It's one of the quirks you learn to deal with.

Debian Edition, Too

I'm getting the same problem running Debian Edition with the latest update pack. In fact, the final "zero seconds" of a 144 MB file is going on its third minute or so right now. I am using a USB multi-card reader (mounted pass-through in the 3.5" bay ) with an SD card inserted. I'm running 16 ...

Linux Mint's Multiple Personality Disorder

I know this topic is marked as solved, but it's recent, and I had the same problem but found a different solution. The whole thing started because the mixer applet wasn't appearing in my notification area . I added the horizontal one but double-clicked it by accident, muting the system. I go to unmu...
