Thanks. I'll have a look at the sourceforge hplip. LaserJet 4200 is on the list of printers that LinuxMint 2.2 came with. I suspect my USB connection may require a special driver. The printer has no USB port, but a parallel port. I'm using a USB > Parallel cable--which works seemlessly under Win XP,...

I went ahead and set up the new printer for HP LaserJet 4200. The icon is there with a blue "Ready". I don't see how since I never specified a port. However, if I try to print a test page, I get "Printer is not responding"--not surprising since I see no indication that the USB port is set to it. On ...

Thank you |_NiGhTmArE_| Using the locate command in Terminal, I found an xorg.conf file in /etc/X11/ (strange that File Browser's search couldn't find it, but once I knew the path, I could navigate to it in File Browser.) Anyway, using Gedit, there was no match for Default Depth. A search on Default...

Thanks, from the file system level and "computer", I did a search using File Browser for xorg.conf. Nothing.

(Aside, I found LinuxMint's File Browser a bit counter intuitive to use.)

Can I search using Terminal? If so, do I log in as root (sudo)? What would be the command line, please?

USB Printer Port Not Recognized

Am running freshly installed LinuxMint 2.2. Problem: When I go to mintMENU (Bianca) > CONTROL CENTER > DEVICES > PRINTER SYMBOL > PRINTER > NEW PRINTER, I get "No printers connected". The alternate choice is to select Choose another printer by selecting a port. This option has only four choices: hp ...

How to Verify Color Quality (# of colors)

Less than 24 hours ago, I successfully set up LinuxMint for the first time. I installed LinuxMint from an ISO image that I had downloaded just yesterday. My graphics card is an NVIDIA Geforce 7500. Its maximum number of colors (color quality) in Windows XP is 32 bit. The other setting is 16 bit. Que...

Thank you.

I shudder to reflect back on the earlier days of consumer internet access. The concept of using a firewall wasn't much of a reality or practice back then.

I had similar symptoms when I installed LinuxMint 2.2 last night. That is, I got a message that a wired connection was made (or some such), but I could not access the Web using the browser. Not google, not linuxmint, not anywhere through the browser. I had not customized any network or internet sett...

New Installation LinuxMint 2.2--What about firewall?

Last night I successfully installed LinuxMint 2.2. This is my first exposure to LinuxMint. One item that is not apparent to me is whether or not standard LinuxMint installation automatically sets up a firewall. It seems that some Linux distros automatically set up a firewall, but they are rarely cle...
