Dell Inspiron 24-3455 won't sleep

I installed Linux Mint on a Dell Inspiron 24-3455 all-in-one system awhile back, and it won't go to sleep. Whether I press the power button on the side or use the menu options to Suspend, it goes through the motions of going to sleep, and then I hear the whine of the disk spinning back up again. I e...

Re: Linux Mint 20: Errors during Startup after Upgrade

This article https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=273814 explains that the log is file .xsession-errors in the home directory. When I got that dialog (which disappears too fast IMHO), I used less to view the log file and search for "error": Cjs-Message: 11:06:21.488: JS LOG: [LookingGla...

csd-keyboard crashing durinig suspend

Since I upgraded to Linux Mint 19.3, I've had a problem with the keyboard going dead when the computer resums. I believe it is happening both when I close the lid of my laptop and when I invoke suspension from the Cinnamon menu. The journal reports that csd-keyboard traps, but this may be happening ...

Re: Shorten NetworkManager restart time?

Evidently the answer is that this value is not configurable. I pulled the NetworkManager source and found where my restarting message is coming from: Mar 08 10:04:16 grendel NetworkManager[1434]: <info> [1552057456.5035] device (enx803f5d0d13b8): scheduling DHCPv4 restart in 120 seconds, 3 tries lef...

Shorten NetworkManager restart time?

Does anyone know how to shorten the NetworkManager restart time after the loss of a DHCP lease? Since I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.1, I've found that whenever I move one of my Ethernet interfaces to a different subnet, NetworkManager shuts down the DHCP client for the interface and waits two f...

Re: Memory leak in Cinnamon 4.0.9 (Mint 19.1)

Or maybe not. As part of my diagnostic work, I also created a user and used the default applet set for the same kind of testing, and it looks like that user also had the Power Manager applet enabled, but I didn't see any increase in memory usage for that account. Anyway, I'll still contact the apple...

Re: Memory leak in Cinnamon 4.0.9 (Mint 19.1)

It looks the source of my memory leak was the Cinnamon Power Manager applet. I conducted a test over several nights wherein I'd disable one applet or desklet, write down cinnamon's memory usage before going home, and then check it again in the morning. Cinnamon's memory usage actually went down a li...

Re: Memory leak in Cinnamon 4.0.9 (Mint 19.1)

My upgrade procedure was doing a fresh installation of the OS from the Linux Mint DVD, then losing a tarball of my home directory, so if there's any cruft, it's in my settings. I didn't notice any problem with Cinnamon in my old installation except occasional "Cinnamon has crashed -- do you want to ...

Re: Memory leak in Cinnamon 3.8.9

Hi, Moem,

I have a similar problem in Cinnamon 4.0.9 described in viewtopic.php?f=208&t=287614. My inxi output is there as an attachment. I didn't see your post on this topic until today. I'll try to get updates emailed to me for this thread, too.

Re: suddenly blue (cyan) backgrounds on all pages

Thanks, all. I had this problem, too, and it seems to be resolved for Mint 17.3 as of ghostscript version 9.26~dfsg+0-0ubuntu0.14.04.6.

Memory leak in Cinnamon 4.0.9 (Mint 19.1)

Since I upgraded to Mint 19.1 from 18.something at the beginning of the week, I've been noticing that the interface isn't as crisp as I was accustomed to. Cinnamon seemed to be showing up high in the top listing with noticeable CPU time (15-50%), and this morning I realized that the resident working...

Gnome terminal initial title for a profile in Serena (18.1)?

I'm using a new installation of Linux Mint 18.1 (Serena) Cinnamon and cannot find a way to set the initial title bar value in preferences. I'll swear this feature existed in 17.1 and 17.3, and I used it to help me keep track of sessions to primitive devices using serial cables and telnet. Is there a...

Re: Dell Inspiron 11-3153: Cinnamon software rendering mode

Laurent, that worked like a charm, and it also fixed another problem I had, that suspend mode wasn't working. Thank you very much!

If anyone else is reading this thread, the Linux kernel version I installed was 4.2.0-23-generic.

Thanks again!

Dell Inspiron 11-3153: Cinnamon software rendering mode

I'm running a new installation of Linux Mint 17.3 (64 bit) on a Dell Inspiron 11-3153. When I login to the GUI, I get a message about Cinnamon running in software rendering mode and how I ought to check my drivers. I am currently running a home-built 4.2.8 kernel because the 3.19 kernel that came wi...

Where to add modprobe statement?

Does anyone know where I can add a call to modprob in the network up/down scripts? I'm trying to bring up an installation of Mint 14 on a Dell laptop that originally came with factory-installed Ubuntu, and after lots of reading and trying things, I've got it to the point that if I run "modprobe b43"...
