Re: Monitor turning off
This was a fresh install of LM13xfce. Therefore there should be no auto screen blanking. The developers should trust us for that decision. But since my screen does go blank, this is IMHO a poor feature, i.e., a BUG.. If we want screen blanking, we can use the simple screensaver app. I think I'll ins...

Re: Monitor turning off
Same issue here also LinuxMint 13 xfce Monitor goes black every 10 minutes unless I move the mouse. Sound does not go off. I move the mouse and monitor lights up again. Settings >> Screensaver shows Warning: The XScreenSaver daemon doesn't seem to be runningy 0:0 ... Sorry I didn't get it all copied...

I think I'll try DVDStyler.
It looks like it can do what I need.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Burn Videos to DVDs
... I'm experimenting with DeVeDe and it seems to do what I want. It has a nice shrink-to-fit function. I put a 25 minute mkv video on a 700 MB CD. DeVeDe made an ISO and I used Basero, Video Project to burn it to CD. It played very well using VLC. But it didn't play at all on my TV's optical disc p...

Burn Videos to DVDs
... Using Vokoscreen I recorded several 25-30 minute videos off the Internet. Format of the recordings is mkv. I would like to burn 3-4 videos as separate entries onto a single DVD. Then I would like to be able to view any of them on TV (NTSC format) using a video playback machine. I assume that I'l...

Re: Openshot pushes my cpu to max and stalls
... Thanks for the reply. Since Openshot seems to be a hugh resource hog, I think my best solution is to use the Desktop PC. It will handle this kind of task more easily than my Laptop. I may try LMDE in place of LM13xfce, since LMDE uses less resources. Or I may use plain old Debian for this task. ...

Thanks for the reply.
Actually the solution was very simple.
I just needed to SAVE the project before EXPORT.
This old dog was having a senior moment, I guess.

[SOLVED] Openshot produces blank screen
...
I used the Razor Tool to trim
about a minute of video from the
beginning of my video. Then
I pressed the red Export Video button
and produced a DVD widescreen video.
But there is about a minute of
black screen at the beginning
of the produced video.
Why?
Suggestions please.

[SOLVED] Openshot pushes my cpu to max and stalls
... New HP2000 laptop, LM15xfce, 4GB RAM. When trying to trim a few seconds off the beginning and ending of a 30 minute mkv video, Openshot quickly slows down and then freeze up. Htop reports: CPU usage of both processors running in 98-100% range and RAM usage is low. Desktop PC, LM13xfce, 16GB RAM,...

Re: Which distro to use?
... I would not recommend LM15xfce, even thou it is my favorate. LM15xfce uses over 300M RAM. It is not a lite weight distro. But I got gobs of RAM. I recommend going to a more basic distro. Debian would be my choice. It has NO Mint and Ubuntu overhead. And it has a big choice of window managers and...

Re: Running linux on windows 8 laptop
... Oha, I learned alot from YouTube. You need to learn how to access your UEFI/CSM (bios). Also if you need Win8, learn about Win8 Recovery, in case of a boo boo. I had to Recover twice. I have a new HP2000 laptop w/ factory installed Win8. I have installed several UEFI compliant Linux distos. Most...

... Joe I've been more comfortable using a GParted disc than using GParted in Mint or other distro disc. Goto http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php Download GParted iso and burn to disc. Here GParted is loaded in Debian (Stable) without extra Mint and Ubuntu overhead. This is a helpful disc to...

Re: Cannot boot live CD even with Secure Boot disabled.
... I've had no trouble booting LM15 discs on my 2013 HP2000 factory installed Win8 PC. I disabled secure boot. You wrote: "This posed problems during installation because the install script assumed, at some points, that I wanted to install also in CSM mode on my UEFI disk. I had to run the boo...

Re: trying install w8 and mint14
... I successfully installed LM on a PC that has factory-installed Win8. My PC is an HP2000 laptop I bought in March 2013. **Things you need to know FIRST.** Know how to restore Win8 in case of a f__k up. You need to partition using Win8's partitioning system. It is different (of course!!) and you n...

... Didn't know where to put this, but thought it would be nice for Newbies. Installed LM15xfce this week, along side Win8 and a couple other distros, and like it very much. But --- what surprized me was that Htop showed 300+ MB memory usage. That seems exorbitant. (I used a Kaypro 4 w/ 64k environm...
