Thanks. This fixed my problem too.

I booted this morning as usual and got this failure. Bizarre!

Re: New Dell XPS 15 with Skylake Install Mishap with Hard drive

Not IMO. Wait for 18.

I did however get it working: see viewtopic.php?p=1137351#p1137076 (apologies for the lack of detail).

Re: [Solved] Booting recovery kernel 4.4 - Gave up waiting for root dev..

Another thing. I was getting some window flicker artefacts (lines) when moving windows and particularly when playing videos. I use Mint Kde 17.3. I fixed this by changing Compositing type from XRender to OpenGL 3.1 and setting the Tearing Prevention (VSync) to None. (Qt graphics system is unchanged ...

Re: Booting recovery kernel 4.4 - Gave up waiting for root dev..

Working using 4.4.3 based on bits and pieces around the internet. Key things seem to be: updating gcc to 4.9.3 Installing * skl_guc_ver4_3 * Skylake DMC - 1.26 (may not be required - not sure) from https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads and adding the following kernel parameter: idle=nomwait and add...

Re: New Dell XPS 15 with Skylake Install Mishap with Hard drive

Many people have problems with kernel 4.x on the new Dell laptop with Mint 17.3. The post by rio517 above https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=212016&p=1115114&hilit=kernel+4.4#p1115114 is a good summary of what you need to do, but it didn't work for me (although I'm on the Dell 13 mode...

[Solved] Booting recovery kernel 4.4 - Gave up waiting for root dev..

I installed Mint KDE 17.3 64 bit on a Dell XPS 13 9350 Skylake. I can dual boot Win 10 and Mint. Under Mint, the Broadcom chip is not supported. I have no wireless or card reader support. These drivers are supported in kernel 4.4, so I installed it. Booting into 4.4 gives "Gave up waiting for root d...

Re: Adding VPN Connection by Importing OpenVPN config file

(just updated my profile to get notified of replies).

I've setup a mint 17.1 machine at work. I'll have a look at it on Monday and see if I can find anything because I need this as well.

cheers

Re: Upgrading KDE in Mint 13 KDE

Yeah! Good advice. Thanks. I have no real reason except to scratch an itch. The kernel upgrade wasn't as smooth as i implied - a fair amount of hacking about in Terminal, mainly because I was using fglrx (which I now avoid). Updating to Mint 17 looks painful given that the clean install metho...

Re: Adding VPN Connection by Importing OpenVPN config file

I would certainly hope so as I intend to upgrade. At the moment I'm using Mint 13 KDE. It does have an import button in the VPN tab of the Network Manager.

Upgrading KDE in Mint 13 KDE

I've successfully upgraded the Linux kernel to 3.13.0-46-generic based on instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/1204_HWE_EOL. I did this mainly to get the Radeon Dynamic Power Management. Very happy with the results (I am using the standard radeon open source drivers). I was wondering if it's ok/s...

Re: <SOLVED> Mint Splash On Cube Desktop Overview

Did an update of Mint 13 yesterday. The location seems to have moved. I had to change the copy in "/usr/share/mintkde-default-settings/kde4-profile/default/share/apps/kwin/" then go to "Configure desktop effects -> Desktop Cube" select spanner Advanced tab then deselect "Display image on caps", OK, ...
