Re: Some Help please refining my XFCE desktop (Panel Launche

Sounds like a dock is your only option. I too think cairo dock is way over the top ! Plank (based on docky codebase) looks good: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/03/3-themes-for-linux-dock-plank But I found that it crashed a lot at startup (maybe because it's still alpha software ?) -----------------...

Re: compiz maximised titlebar bug - mint 15

found a workaround:

in donf editor:
dconf key: org > compiz > gwd > use-metacity-theme - uncheck it

don't have nice gtk3 window themes now but it stops the bug !

compiz maximised titlebar bug - mint 15

I seem to have this compiz titlebar bug in mint 15 xfce 32bit: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1179247 https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1158267 can't always select a maximised application by clicking its title bar. It is very annoying to use compiz with this bug. Do other...

Re: How come my games are slow or keep shuting down?

you could also try switching between the opensource and proprietary ATI drivers to see if that makes a difference. And different versions of the proprietary drivers. Also world of tanks is supported by the version of Play on Linux in the mint 14/15 repos. Installing WoT via PoL should give the game ...

Re: ElectricSheep screensaver won't show up in the list on 1

Electricsheep seems to be working fine for me. Just had to add: GL: electricsheep --root 1 \n\ to the end of the list of screensavers in the xscreensaver config file in the home folder: ~/.xscreensaver then electricsheep will show as an option in the list: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/11/how-to-get-e...

Re: How come my games are slow or keep shuting down?

maybe your mobile graphics (ATI Radeon™ Xpress 1100) can't run world of tanks ? Or maybe this graphics hardware only works under windows and not wine ? This is very low spec graphics hardware (5 year old mobile graphics) that I would expect not to work well with modern games - most 3d games now want...

Re: xcfe should come with hardinfo

Also if mint is going to include Zeitgeist services (and auto start them) by default (I assume this is for maximum compatibility with ubuntu and gnome) it would make sense to include (but not necessarily auto start) an app like synapse (only uses about 12mb of ram) by default that makes use of Zeitg...

Re: Two things missing for me in XFCE

answer to 2: 1) first use xfce task manager to check that Zeitgeist services are running (these are what log system activities and they should be running by default) 2) to view/search the activities Zeitgeist logs you can install the Synapse app via software or package manager 3) start synapse via m...

Re: Linux Mint 15 XFCE + Compiz (broken; missing XFCE suppor

Yep compiz is working fine for me in mint 15 xfce. There are a couple of things to note: no emerald in repos fusion icon doesn't seem to load (use compiz --replace in startup list or alt-f2 after boot to reload) ------------------------------------------- gtk3 themes work fine (in place of emerald) ...

Re: Krita and XFCE

Yep Krita and other kde apps (e.g. dolphin) work fine on xfce / mate/ cinnamon etc ... They will take up a little more space on your hard disk and load a little more slowly than native gtk apps but nothing that will give you problems. Same is true for running gtk apps in kde. If you run kde apps a l...

Re: XFCE prinitng multiple copies jobs issue

Don't think the xfce desktop has any effect on printing which is all done via CUPS. Try setting up default options for printers via CUPS web interface in a browser: http://localhost:631/admin > manager printers > click printer use dropdown to change default settings (there should be multiple pages o...
