Re: Is Mint dead?

Right, and all of your responses are emotional & not the least bit logical. I have an argument for everything you wrote, but I know where this will lead, I will write it, you will make up excuses & we'll be in a loop until you decided I offended you & ban me. So just to jump onto the part where I o...

Re: 17.2 Lost Tray Control

Mint 17.x goes end of life sometime this month, I'm not sure how much effort you'd really want to expend fixing any problems at this point. I'd consider doing a clean reinstall of a newer version.

Re: Dual Monitor black and boot only with nomodeset

Here's something with a list of AMDGPU compatible cards ... https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AMDGPU-Driver ... and your Vega card isn't listed. However there's a list of supported cards for the amdgpu-pro driver here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-prorad-lin-amdgpupro ... and V...

And I don't know what CLI means.
So what's with the attitude?
You'll find on any Linux forum that there are limits to the patience of experienced users for beginners who can;t be bothered to use a search engine.

Re: Media player displays "trippy" colors and output

It's been so long since I used any default Mint media player (almost always SMplayer, Audacious or Clementine) I can't remember what it's called. But if VLC works but it doesn't the first thing I want to know is: did you install the Mint codecs? They used to come with that but no longer, and VLC doe...

Oh, you're right. Didn't noticed it as an own distro, thought it'd be just another desktop manager... Thanks for the hint. Well, technically you probably can add PPAs, it's just always complaining after doing so like Debian I guess? If you're that concerned with security ppas are the last th...

Re: Graphic card nvidia or intel

... As I understand cinnamon is best for modern graphic card... I think you may have that a bit backwards. Cinnamon REQUIRES a better, more modern graphics card than any of the other Mint suuported desktop environments. It's not best FOR them. Just dl all the DE versions of the Mint live CD and boo...

Hardf to say exactly with no system info, esp. the DE, but you should be able to put something like "Places" on the panel.

I never thought of that but searching gives me absolutely nothing. It'd require an extension to a file manager that doesn't exist AFAIK.

Re: Installing Windows 7 after Linuxmint 19.1 Cinnamon

I'd go with Win 10 at this point too. Also, as mentioned, you have to install WIndows first. The problem is that WIndows does not recognize the Linux file format used. If you try to install it on an existing Mint install it will think all of the drive is unallocated space and will then happily over ...

In case there's nothing there you should post some useful system info (always do this). Copy/paste this to the terminal and copy/paste the text output here (no screenshots plz):

Code: Select all

Re: New Version - When - "Beta" or "Safe"

Perhaps it's only the largest distros like Ubuntu that feel that they can afford to say this but I think that unless you have excellent CLI recovery skills, using a beta OS release is NUTS. Remember, you won;t get the same support you would with the stable release.

Re: restarting craphics

OK, your BIOS date is 2018 but searching other hardware indicates that machine's from 2011 or so. Does that sound right? Did you update the BIOS? If it is that old I suspect that your video card is too old for the modesetting driver used in Mint 19.x. What I'd do in that case is install the old driv...

Re: How to properly read 4K content on Mint?

The youtube videos you mention may not actually be showing in 4K resolution because ISPs often throtttle the bandwidth. You need to provide more system info, copy/paste this to the terminal and copy/paste the text output here: inxi -Fxz ALso innstall mediainfo-gui (it's in the repos), open a problem...

Re: Is ubuntu tweak compatible with Mint?

Wouldn't touch it myself, Mint may be Ubuntu based (except for LMDE of course) but it's NOT Ubuntu. I won't even do sudo apt-get upgrade or (esp) sudo apt-get dist-upgrade in Mint.

Re: Subscription service?

I don't think many users realize how restrictive RHEL is. Just one example, the only DEs offered are Gnome Fallback (not even Gnome 3) or KDE. That's the other price for paid support.
