Re: Mint 18.2 and audio hi fi

What happens if you set the audio output module in Clementine to "USB Audio Codec" with no conversions? BTW the best way I've found to show the sample rate of what's being played at the moment to enter this intop the terminal while you're playing it: cat /proc/asound/card?/stream0 | grep M...

I don't really blame them. Ubuntu hasn't exactly been a paragon of stability since 14.04.

Re: Using Windows version of Steam and a Windows only game in Wine

It's not unusual for Steam games to require an Nvidia video card, esp. for Linux. if you look at the minimum requirements here:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/45760 ... ighter_IV/

It says "NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better (except NVIDIA GeForce 7300)".

Does this apply?

Re: individual software upgrade

I'm not convinced that an upgrade is the answer ... I also run 18.2 KDE and not only does Okular work fine, it's the only Linux pdf reader I've ever used that does work properly. First I'd go into okular settings and choose less aggressive performance settings. You should also generate some system i...

They may all be incompatible with your present system config, of which there are few details. Copy/paste this to the terminal and copy/paste the text output here:

If you don't use Transmission why do you care whether it's been patched or not?

Re: How to switch to the KDE Plasma desktop

Oh dear. Installing more than one DE is an excellent way to break your OS. No really knowledgeable users do this, and whatever stupid blog you got that info from, don't read it again. To make things worse, installing Kubuntu on a non Ubuntu machine is even worse. Mint is Ubuntu based but it isn't Ub...

Re: Is Linux 18.3 cinnamon 32bit too heavy for my dell b130?

Definitely install the Xfce version ... don't just install Xfce, that'll likely just break things. And when you do, turn off all desktop compositing/eye candy. You have no 3D hardware video acceleration at all, indicated by the line that says more or less "OpenGL renderer llvmpipe". And un...

Good advice, I'd add don't use things like Shakespeare quotes or the like. Crackers are using quote dictionaries now.

I can't think of a sillier reason to install a beta release. Beta means unreliable (it IS going to break at some point after an update) and by definition not officially supported.

The "most current" driver is not necessarily the right one. Is it the one recommended by Mint Drver Manager? Because that usually is the right one.

PLease copy/paste this to the terminal and copy/paste the text output here for some proper system info:

Re: Alienware 17r3 Nvidia replacement

There aren't any video cards that are better supported in Linux than Nvidia. AMD dfoesn't have the best support in Linux at all. In fact now that I only run Linux I'll probably never buy a machine with AMD graphics again unless they improve their support. Fortunately this may be happening but IMO th...

New kernel 14.13.0.26 broke video on 2 PCs so far. Nvidia-304 driver won't allow proper resolution on desktop with GeForce 6150SE. Changing to open source driver fixed. Toshiba NB205 netbook same problem and video corruption but there is no alternative driver. Isn't this the kind of shtuff we switc...
