Re: Not exactly Mint related but...

I don't think it's possible to explain such a thing in any detail and make it novice compliant. Learning curve ahead. What does this do that justifies such a learning curve?

Re: AMDGPU-PRO 17.50 (RX550) Refusing to work

According to this ...

... the correct driver for that card is amdgpu, not amdgpu-pro.

Re: Warning Kernel 4.15 and nvidia 390.25 drivers!!!

If you always have to have the newest kernel, which is neither usuallly necessary or recommeded in Mint, this sort of thing is going to happen. Im not one to always spam apt-get update or pacman -Syu, but if i want to use a rolling distro regardless on what its based i currently cant due to the fac...

Re: Edit File Properties to remove tags or details

You're not 100% clear but I think you mean tag editing. I've never seen a Linux file manager that does that but you could install a tag app as mentioned above and open files with that after right clicking.

Re: Nvidia Driver Fix - Can't Login Anymore

Sounds like you installed the Mate desktop over a Cinnamon install, which can definitley break things. Multiple DEs are just a bad idea. You need to post more system info. Copy/paste this to the terminal and copy/paste the text output here: inxi -Fxz But if it's one of those problems involving multi...

Re: Downloaded Videos Have No Audio

VLC should play the audio. But you don't know what's in the files.

Install mediainfo-gui first. It's in the tested repos and essential for media users.

Then open one of the offending files in mediainfo, set the display to Text mode, and copy/paste the text here.

Re: Dacmagic plus usb is not seen

You must have updated the kernel because 18.3 doesn't ship with a 4.13 kernel. Did you install it because of meltdown stuff? Try booting from the previous kernel (assuming you didn't delete it).

Just a thought...
Have you tried to open the folder where the movie and subtitle files are as ROOT? That possibly might do the trick.
Chris
That is SUCH bad practice. Don'tr do it.

Re: OS Up-dates errors and video cutting

2. The second issue concerns on choosing a video cutter that is not necessary changing your video format. I tried cutting with WinFF and with Curlew but they were not able to pin point the precise interval I chose. They were cutting well in the begining of my time selection and the end for them was...

That guide suggests killing pulseaudio ... Note he said killing it, not removing it, which is not a good idea generally ... if you're having fluidsynth problems. Did you try that?

That is VERY unlikely.
You're the expert, still works for me though.
It likely works on your hardware and drivers, not necessarily everyone's.

You can see your update history in Update Manager. Have you enabled the high level updates? Have you tried plugging in someting else i to the same USB port in Linux? Re: linux mint 18.3 and insurgency

To tell you the truth, while I don't have any Windows partitions any more, I'm not a gamer. If I was I'd still have some Windows. Steam doesn't work as well in Linux as in WIndows generally due to poor game and driver optimization, many Linux Steam games require Nvidia graphics, and it's normal to g...

I'll happily give it up. Why in the flying frak should I support a distro that doesn't support the DE I prefer? It's just another Ubuntu based distro. Better than most but still.

Re: vlc upgrade to 3.0.0?

Sounds like a solution for that situation is to move off version 17. That'd be my suggestion if media playback is important and there are no dire hardware support issues with your machine and 18.x. I know it seems pretty silly that it took this long to get repo versions supporting x265/HEVC, but it...

Re: vlc upgrade to 3.0.0?

If you're running 17.x the vlc and smplayer repo versions don't have HEVC playback, so there's a pretty good case there for a newer ppa version. In 18.x the repo versions of both programs play HEVC fine. Though, as usual, SMplayer plays them a lot better. It just has much better performance. I can't...
