Re: Alternatives to Windows10
... I turned to Linux for an opsys and chose Mint cindarella .... Do you mean LMDE 'Cindy'? If so you should post this in the LMDE section otherwise you'll get a llot of answers that'd work in Ubuntu based Mint but not LMDE. You need to post better info, copy/paste this to the terminal and copy/pas...

Re: Is it safe to change kernels?
Don't install a newer kernel without knowing how to boot from the previous one, which you can do by rebooting and holding down the left shift key as it's starting. WHen the grub menu appears select the last kernel. Easy, just don't delete the last kernel until you're damn sure the new one works. The...

Re: Video Freezing Every ~1 Second (19 Tara w/ Cinnamon 3.8.9)
I'm reasonable sure that you've messed up your graphics a bit by installing 3rd party drivers via ppa. This is a bad idea in general, this isn't Windows. See this from your inxi report: Graphics: Card: Intel HD Graphics 6000 bus-ID: 00:02.0 Display Server: X.Org 1.19.6 drivers: modesetting (unloaded...

+1 for soundconverter too, it's easy to use and uses the Lame encoder, which is the best for mp3 AFAIK.

Re: WOW Where do I start?
I haven't done this but on site I trust anbox seems to be the mosst recommended one for UBuntu, and Mint is Ubuntu based unless you run LMDE. For Mint 19.x use Ubuntu 18.04 solutions, for 18.x Ubuntu 16.04. Here's a couple of things to read: https://askubuntu.com/questions/118903/what-android-emulat...

Re: forgot to Verify Linux ISO
I always use bittorrent for Linux isos if available too. Yes, it's a lot faster anf the torrent protocol does checksums. But it's a fairly rudimentary method, not as reliablle as md5sum or sha256. So I do the recommended checking too.
Bonus of torrenting Mint isos, it's 100% legal.

Re: Slow Acer Aspire - AMD Drivers?
You can't expect answers that fast on Linux forums, and I don't have one for you exactly. But according to this ... https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver You're already using the right driver. Don't try to install others. Is the system slow in general or when browsing or using some other ty...

Re: I need help finding and installing the drivers I need to use Linux properly.
I looked at that linked thread in the 1st post and xenopeek isn't actually really saying that you need to install drivers. That thread isn't about Intel video. ANd as mentioned you aren't going to find binary drivers for Intel cards. ALso I'm not entirtely sure that creating that 20-intel.conf file ...

The last thing that tthe Linux world needs is more flaky new distros with very little user base and hence support.

Re: Any "linux for beginners" book recommendations for a very frustrated user?
I don't think you're going to find any books explaining how to install drivers for Radeon video cards. Many of the linux books I've looked at - glanced at - seem to describe doing stuff with a GUI...of which there is no standard, it depends on the desktop. Also, in linux, device drivers are general...

I was going to suggest the Wine app database too, also try the Wine forums.
Also I agree that using Windows in a VM or dual boot would be better, Wine isn't actually all that reliable.

I'm thinking similarly but not directly. SOme Linux browsers have better support for certain formats than others. Try Chrome, it has the best compatibility in general.Matthew_Wai wrote: ⤴Sat Feb 16, 2019 1:06 amCan we assume that the problem lies in Linux?ajgringo619 wrote: ⤴Sat Feb 16, 2019 1:02 amI can get past the detection mechanism, but the next screen refuses to load.

Re: Any portable launcher app for AppImages?
At the appimage.org site (see their guide at https://docs.appimage.org/user-guide/run-appimages.html) they recommend AppImageLauncher. There's a link with 32 and 64 bit .deb file dls here: https://github.com/TheAssassin/AppImageLauncher/releases There are 4 deb files, should I install the bionic_am...

Re: Any portable launcher app for AppImages?
Haven't done this myself because I only use one appimage and I just keep it in my Desktop folder and execute it from there. But I did a bit of searching and that app you're talking about doesn't really look all that well developed. At the appimage.org site (see their guide at https://docs.appimage.o...
