Re: Blueman issues since 18.3 upgrade

You should post more info, post the text output of inxi -Fxz in the terminal. WHen you do a web upgrade it doesn't update the kernel by default. This isn't a bad thing because a new Linux kenel can break things. Thing is, not upgrading the kernel can also cause issues. I've had this happen. The 18.3...

Re: Ryzen 2000 kernel support

Try a site specific search of this forum or try "ubuntu 18.04 ryzen 2600x" if you want Miint 19 because it's 18.04 based. QUicker than waiting for responses that may not come. Hint: I've gotten 95% of my useful Mint support from Ubuntu support sigtes, but you do have to look for the right ubuntu ver...

Re: could not set the configuration for CRTC 101

No Nvidia expert but I'm not so sure a 2012 model will support HIDPI myself. I'm also a bit concerned about nouveau failing to load but perhaps someone who knows more about all their cards will pipe in. Have you tried Driver Manager for that nvidia card? According to this ... https://www.nvidia.com/...

Nonsense.
Yes, utter nonsense, and journaling has nothing to do with it.

Re: Canonical says 18.04 will now be LTS for 10 yrs

Important to note Canonical supports only the main and (working with vendors, as it's closed source) restricted repositories. Commonly, as on Linux Mint, people also enable the community supported universe and multiverse repositories. I don't imagine those will be supported for 10 years. Those are ...

well. thanks for hanging out in this forum and trying to help people who ask for it. I just don't feel helped but just told to not customize my system. I hope that there are ways to debug the system without removing anything that's not part of a default installation first.. (maybe a weak analogy:) ...

Re: Video persistently freezes up

Trying a lighter browser (I'd suggest Chrome or Vivaldi myself) may be the answer but it's hard to tell with so little system info. Copy/paste this to the terminal and copy/paste the text output here (no screenshots please): inxi -Fxz You say it's an old gigabyte MB but not how old. Mint 19 may not ...

Re: Linux and Floppy B drives?

Found a program called fdmount for this, the ubuntu manpage only lists a tarball source:

http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/bio ... unt.1.html

That should be the 18.04 tab, which is what you'd want for Mint 19.

It may be easier if you can get hold of a USB floppy drive.

Linux DE themes are an unreliable bucket of worms, even worse than Windows. I gave up 3rd party themes years ago.

VLC is actually pretty buggy (and quite over rated IMO), does this happen with other media players?

Re: Mate 19 installed alongside Mate 17.2. Now what?

First thing I'd do re app setups is copy the relevant hidden config files fro the old /home to the new one. They're just text files, as you'd expect in Linux. I've reinstalled many times on my netbook (distro/DE hopping netc), which has a separate partition for /home. I've almost always kept the hid...

Then you are never going to get any sort of decent Linux support anywhere and indeed may as well go back to Windows.

If it really works I'd happily take a 15-20% speed reductiuon for the security. Getting hacked would be a lot more time consuming.

I'm not worried about the zombie apocalypse, the crows will eat them all.

I don't worry about taking up space with more than one program either.
