Re: Mint Based on 24.04 ?

Ubuntu uses fixed dates for releases. Mint doesn't so it's not so easy to pinpoint a date. IMO Mint is correct, fixed dates make less sense.

Re: How improve interface of Application Manager?

It may have to do with how it interacts with your hardware, paste the complete text output of

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxpmrz
run in the terminal. Wrap it in <code> tags.

Re: Is terminal-based web browsers safer than Graphical User Interface-based web browsers?

I don't think they're very well maintained, which negates any of the above advantages for me. Plus they're useless in the real world.

Re: Distro Selection and Understanding.

There are a lot more distros than you may realize, more than 200 listed at distrowatch and that's not exhaustive. Personally I think it's ridiculous to have that many. Why so many? IMHO it's a bunch of people wanting to be a big fish in a little pond. The differences between Linux distros is not so ...

Re: Install or Upgrade?

That's a flatpak update, I'd guess you have a flatpak of okular installed. If you install a KDE app flatpak on a GTK based desktop like all the supported Mint ones you'll get a big runtime package. Which you would also get with the non flatpak version from the default repo, it'd just be in a differe...

Re: Why would I choose a different window manager?

... Window managers are NOT "plug-and-play" or "swappable" with desktop environments. For example, don't try to run Cinnamon with anything other than Muffin. Don't try to run Plasma with anything other than Kwin. I don't care what stupid tutorials on the web say. And there are n...

run in the terminal and wrap it in <code> tags.

I would never use a brush, too much risk of static discharge. Blowing out dust with compressed air is much better. And even then you really, really want to learn how to ground yourself properly first.

That's not the right system info, and what's the make/model of the headphones? Some bluetooth devices just don't work in Linux.

Re: Seeking HOWTO select minimum install from full download ISO

Mint isn't really designed for this in the sense that they don't supply a minimal version. It'd be a lot easier to just get a minimal Debian or Ubuntu installation iso. I'd go for the Debian one, but then again my main Linux box is running Debian 12 Gnome now so I may not be totally objective. This ...

Re: Does Linux Mint's search engine partnership ad revenue work on LMDE too?

While I can't say for sure, I'd be very surprised if it was any different in LMDE. If this bothers you why not just use another search engine as default? I wouldn't touch yahoo search anyway and IMO duckduckgo is massively over rated. I use startpage. I think this anticorporate bias in some Linux us...

Re: Problems on MacBook

Unfortunately that didn't help at all. I think sleeper12 believed you had quite new hardware because the BIOS (UEFI actually) date is 2022. However that isn't always reliable because people update the BIOS, easy mistake to make. Your hardware is actually Intel Skylake series based and that came out...

Yeah, hardware that came out in 2011 isn't going to use UEFI. I'd reinstall in legacy BIOS mode.

Re: Indikator for starting programs

With the exception of LXDE, every desktop environment I've used has had some kind of feedback when you launch a program, if only an icon that blinks for a second. With some DEs you need to look when you click the icon.
