Re: 1920*1080 resolution

Sounds more like standard ati underscan. I think you'll want to look at http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Configuring . I would guess the command you want is: sudo aticonfig --set-pcs-val=MCIL,DigitalHDTVDefaultUnderscan,0 If that doesn't help (after reboot?) keep reading from the above link. Alterna...

Re: Deleted Linux Mint - Windows 8 won't boot (BOOTMGR missi

Yes, unfortunately I ran the two above commands you posted in the /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2 partitions. When I look at Gparted, the two partitions (/dev/sda1 & dev/sda2) are in black (broken). I tried running the command as just /dev/sda, but after rebooting, I still get a similar message, "...

Re: Deleted Linux Mint - Windows 8 won't boot (BOOTMGR missi

Are you saying that you ran sudo dd if=/usr/lib/syslinux/mbr.bin of=/dev/sda1 and then when that didn't work you tried sudo dd if=/usr/lib/syslinux/mbr.bin of=/dev/sda2 ? Please say no... The correct command (assuming the tutorial is right) would have been sudo dd if=/usr/lib/syslinux/mbr.bin of=/de...

What's the model number? I've never head of support actually being withdrawn for an HP printer before.

The LMDE repositories update quite infrequently to increase stability. What you are seeing is normal and you don't have to do anything.

Re: The "Freeze" is coming - what will you do?

Stick with testing. The real question is what happens when testing becomes stable. we start the adventure once again :D into debian 8? or there was another meaning in your question? Well possibly into 7 and track stable once Gnome-shell is in... but then in 6 months (let alone 2 years) there might ...

If you hold the Alt key you should be able to drag the installer window upwards in order to see the hidden button(s).

This is the sort of situation where a LMDE-stable edition with auto-updating would be useful.

I don't see why it's an either/or situation. Install both and see which one you end up using more often.

Gnome doesn't know or care anything about kwrite so it lets you do what you want. Just a theory :) hah  what would we do without kde? apparently the sneaky fix is working  rm ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel Probably. ;) or sneakier: rm ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel mkdir ~/.local/s...

Re: Keyboard shortcut to lock screen/desktop?

It's Ctrl+Alt+L, not Ctrl+Shift+L, in both Mint and Ubuntu.

If that still doesn't work you should find a keyboard shortcuts utility in the menu where you can check/define any necessary shortcuts.

I'd probably try Crunchbang. If that doesn't work then you're probably looking at Puppy or Damn Small Linux.

Not sure about the processor though...

Re: How do you install LM onto a netbook

If you choose the distribution option you would select Linux Mint.

If you've already downloaded the ISO you don't select any distribution, you select the ISO in the appropriate box.

Re: mint installation computer PROS help URGENT

"Removable devices" usually refers to SD card slots. USB devices are usually listed as a hard drive.

With the Windows error, no idea. As for the distro, what are the specs of the netbook?

Re: How do you install LM onto a netbook

Does LM 9 XFCE automatically support wifi? I remember older versions of LM were impossible to configure wifi or ethernet. You can't assume that an issue with your particular hardware is representative of Mint as a whole. All Mints generally have working networking out of the box, if that isn't the ...

Re: How do you install LM onto a netbook

If you already have an Ubuntu-based installation you can use usb-creator. If you're using anything else Unetbootin works well.

You'll also need to download the Mint 10 LXDE iso.

Re: Need an Ipod Replacement - anyone used a Sansa Clip+

I've got one and wouldn't recommend it. It's cheap because it's poor quality. The clip broke off within days and keeping it in my pocket caused the headphone socket to become loose. As a result sound was intermittent at best and the player became unuseable. These days I just use my Android phone if ...

Re: Conky width and height issue

maximum_width is cropping the side. Not sure what's going on with the bottom, could be as simple as you adding extra information after starting conky but gap_y is the only thing in there to do with height.
